You don't have to swear on the Bible in court. You can ask for another statement. However, if you are up for some sort of crime and you say "I'd rather give my oath" do you think the jury of mostly Christians is gonna beleive your ass? Before you have even said anything they are going to think you are some sort of godless heathen and you are screwed.

I agree - the fact that our government is taking sides in religion is a very bad sign. The only thing that's worse is the fact that most people seem to be supporting Congress on this!

My only reason to hope is that, in America, this religious streak is 10 miles wide and about 2 inches deep.

When I started this thread I was concerned about how our views would be expressed. I thought there may be a few attacks on me for even suggesting we think about the subject. Obviously, I was wrong! We don't agree or believe the same things, but we are demonstrating an ability to tolerate others and their views. Lots of posts, lots of disagreement, and no name calling. It's a good thing. It's the Christian thing...
