Exactly my debacle.

At any rate, I'd take a road trip, but go west, then down through the southwest, than back east to the Dragon. Then 2 days back north - road trip is about seeing places on your way, not getting there in a day. Bring a camera and always stop if you see something interesting. That will be a good trip.

Anyone got experience with Port Aransas/Corpus Christi Texas?

Got some family down there and literally haven't visited in over 10 years.

I'm into a ton of things really.

Disneyland/world would be awesome, but I honestly dont think I would enjoy it all that much. Disney was never really this "thing" to me that it is to many others so to me, it is just a huge amusement park.

Caribbean immediately sprung into my head, but I want to save that for a time when I can stay for longer than a week.

Vegas is definitely on the list.

Places I was personally debating:
Chicago: Sears tower, pier, museums, etc
Dragon: (Although I'd rather not drive half the vacation)
Branson: Silver Dollar city, shows, etc
Colorado: the mountains, hiking(maybe), some mountain roads, helicopter flight through the mountains, etc
Vegas" duh

Great ideas everyone!
Colorado sounds like the place to go, then again I have a particular inclination to running towards nature when life gets stressful. If you're the introspective / self-reflective type of person, nothing beats hiking / camping in the mountains. It is truly amazing. To get away from the cars, the people, the pollution and the drama of every day life is something I always look forward to about once a year. Great photo opportunities as well if you're into that kind of stuff, not to mention that its low on cost if you have the gear already. Personally I would never go alone. It's just too risky. Are you after meeting new people or looking for some solitude?

I would head out west and do the to Vancouver/Whistler combo.
Both are locations are great destination for different reasons.
I visited in late '08 as they were getting ready for the Olympics and I can only imagine they have gotten better with the completion of all the construction.
Great food, great bars, clean, a ton of outdoor activities, good culture in Vancouver.
I'm planning on it again in the very near future. You won't be disappointed.

Vancouver / Whistler... Go downhill mountain biking. I've always wanted to visit Canada... not to hijack your thread or anything.

I'll be there on Labor day weekend.

Corpus smells funny, Port Aransas is fun & cheap. Don't expect anything thats 5 star.
