Any V1 owners get to compare theirs against the Passport 8500 in a real world test? (I know about Radartest.com, and it's faults)

I'm thinking about dumping the passport for the V1.

I have been told by "Passport Tech" that lasar is almost undectable until your shot with the beam. I haven't confirmed this with V1? Honestly since my V1 purchase I've never run across lasar. It seems theres been much controversy concerning its accuracy. Many departments have dropped its use over the last few years.

I just had my first visit to radartest.com What a joke! These guys have some hidden agenda. I owned the top of the line Bel then the Passport before getting wise. They miss every important fact concerning the V1 while pushing the "fluff package" on the other inferior units. They claim the V1 is big, bulky, and soon to be replaced because its old technology. They couldn't be further from the truth. The V1 is "fully upgradeable" instead of constantly replaced as any new technolgies become available. It seems as though V1 is more interested in loyal customers than trying to sell you a new unit every two years that picks up ambulances and says "good morning" when you turn it on. I can't believe those morons knock the usefulness of V1's directional indicator. It's awesome. If you take the time to read the book you always know where Mr. Law is allowing you more freedom in your actions.

Having owned all (3) top brands except that rediclous K-40 (I think the "K" is for K-Mart technology) I can honestly say its like comparing Yugos to a Ferarri. If you have any doubt look to a more reputable source such as the Car & Driver archive I mentioned earlier.

Spend the extra money on the V1 and throw your other unit in the trash. By the way my Passport 7500 never made a sound when I was hit by Lasar, nothing!

Sorry I had comment on one more quote from the "radartest.com morons". They claim that the V1 uncomparable distance up to 7.5 miles on X and K was useless because its almost never used anymore. Joke! It seems often when I travel I run accross a X/K signal but there's no stores or anything in sight to create the usual false or door signal. Guess what, sure enough its Johnny law! These radartest.com people know as much about radar as I do about knitting. More than likely its some kid with no drivers license that knows just enough html to do a website. I would quote more crap from the website but its easier to say its almost all false reporting.

Was cruising on the toll road from Riverside to Irvine yesterday. My Passport 8500 was periodically agitated. Backed off to speed limit. Sure enough, CHP with instant on zapping folks at the very bottom of a long down hill. (Not very sporting.) Moral of the story. As long as you're not the first to get zapped by Instant on radar (within the range of your detector) you can detect police RF illumination of the hapless in front of you.

ChrisD, if you are prone to "countless tickets" or reckless driving save your $399 and become friends with a good traffic attorney!

Seriously, The V1 does not make you invisible it just tilts the odds of not getting caught in your favor.

ChrisD, mounted mine on the windshield, under the windscreen header on the right side, but right next to the mirror. Rear antennae works perfectly with no distortion from the soft top. When the roof is down....even better!

BTW, don't use the visor clip.

I ran the power cabling down the A pillar (windshield) trim to the fuse box under the steering wheel. Then, I ran the remote mount cabling up the side of the dash and the remote mount site on top of the dash, above the air vent. It looks really clean there, and I can easily access it;

1. without having to put my hand 'through' the steering wheel to mute it, and 2; without having to take my eyes off the road I can see the display at all times when driving.

I always leave the remote mount attached, but I can (very)easily unlip my V1 and hide it/take it with me when I park my car. It is also very well hidden up there. When I got pulled over recently, the cop didn't even see it!

Cheers,
