To piggyback off what I already said, I just went to Verizon's website and looked at what a Droid phone would cost me per month, with all the services I currently have on my pre:

450 anytime minutes
5000 text *(I have unlimited on mine but verizon doesnt seem to offer this)
Unlimited Data
Insurance

grand total per month BEFORE taxes: $113.00

plus from what I understand, if you want to use tethering it is going to cost you another $20-$30

no thank you verizon, Ill stick with $80 a month after taxes with my Pre
Unlimited texting is included in my unlimited data. O_o

I've had ATT for almost 10 years

Up until recently, flawless. Now I'm getting some dropped calls. Sometimes it's annoying.. but overall I'm a happy camper

It seems like every one of them is going downhill. Either crappy service, too many fees or crappy cust. service. Even for the basic verizon plan with 450mins, texting and no web it's $60-$70 a month. Then you add all the taxes.

As far as maps go, here's a good representation of exactly what you're looking at: AT&T's faster new network versus Verizon's older, slower network:

The reason why AT&T is suing Verizon is because in the "map", Verizon left out AT&T's EDGEnetwork, for those of you who don't know, the EDGE network IS part of the 3G standard. On the map that Verizon ran in its ads, Verizon shows only UMTS coverage, and not TDMA (EDGE) coverage... Since TDMA coverage is part of the 3G standard, AT&T is suing Verizon for advertising false information... sounds simple and clear enough to me

As a side note, I used to have Verizon, and got no coverage whatsoever in the condo I lived in in Southern Salt Lake City... I switched to Sprint, got no coverage in my entire neighborhood in the new place I live in downtown Salt Lake City, and get no coverage in my parent's house in Charlotte, NC... switched to AT&T, and get great phone and data coverage...

In the real world, EVDO Rev A kicks EDGE's ass up and down the block.. not even close.

there is a lot of misinformation in this thread...

while EDGE is technically considered 3G, it nowhere approaches either the theoretical nor real world speeds that EVDO can/does achieve. this has been proven over and over again by independent tests.

Verizon costs the same as ATT. They have pretty much the same exact plans for the same amount of money, and there are no "additional charges" that verizon charges that ATT doesn't as well. 450 minutes costs 40 bucks on both carriers, smartphone data costs 30 bucks on both, unlimited texting costs 20 on both, etc etc.

i've had all the carriers, and all of them suck in certain areas for sure. ATT is fine in the southeast, its terrible in the northeast, and especially Manhattan. In Manhattan, one can get 5 bars of 3G service, but not be able to place a call or load a webpage due to the congestion of the network. thats a pretty big problem. In NYC, verizon is king. IMO, Its pretty misleading when ATT advertises that they have the "fastest 3G network" and "more bars in more places" - all that is theoretically true, but in real life thats definitely not the case, especially in one of the biggest cell phone markets in this country.

verizon just responded to ATT's lawsuit by saying "the truth hurts".. which is pretty funny. in any case, the whole thing is very silly, both of them should stop spending $ on their lawyers and start spending it to improve the quality of their networks.

Verizon Wireless invests more than any other carrier in it's network every year (around 8 billion). That alone says quite a bit. Also if you really wanna get into has a turly better network, CDMA network technology is superior in many ways when compared to GSM. I would take Sprint's network with it's lesser coverage footprint to AT&T's because CDMA is a more reliable technology.

[QUOTE=Saki GT,Nov 17 2009, 09:12 AM] AT&T is 3 years behind Verizon on rolling out 3G, which is why its (faster) network is smaller, but considering there are no people in N Dakota, I don't know why I'd need 3G coverage there.
