Raj, since I know you're on 6speed. Check out l4p (luxury4play.com) they have a whole section dedicated to watches.

With that said, TAG's are generally not that great of a watch to those guru's.. and even the guys with 10 Pam's recommend a good "Stater" watch is a Hamilton. (Can be had for ~$500-1200).

Also, PM Riley, board sponsor rijowysock, he's a watch genius.
Thanks,

I'm on l4p too, but don't post there much. Like I said, I'm not really a watch guy. The only one I like is the Rolex daytona. I don't like the really blingy ones though.

Cant go wrong with a Rolex Submariner. Its about as timeless as a watch gets.

That is what I wear, model 16613. Of course, I also SCUBA dive so I need a diver's watch.

i like that tag a lot.

I'm not really a "watch" guy, so really for me its more just rather or not I like the look and the name. being quartz doesn't really bother me etc

Don't spend that kind of money for a quartz watch.

I second the Hamilton recommendation. I have a Khaki Action auto I wear every day and love it. It's not a pretty watch, it's durable and easy to read.

I wanted an automatic or mechanical watch because I was tired of finding a watch I really liked, then replacing the battery every year after the first one died. As far as I can tell all battery powered watched are inherently disposable. No matter how much you pay for them, once the first battery dies they are crap.

At least with a mechanical movement of some kind they can be cleaned, lubricated, and adjusted to run again for another 5+ years. And the work only costs what you'd pay for a new watch every 3-5 years.
