Appropriate quote from the movie contact:

"You know, there are four hundred billion stars out there, just in our galaxy alone. If only one out of a million of those had planets, and just of out of a million of those had life, and just one out of a million of those had intelligent life; there would be literally millions of civilizations out there."
yet on a single planet, where there is proof of "intelligent life," there is only a single species out of millions who can claim to be "intelligent life"

Either life originated from something alien or we came to be due to "spontaneous generation." Either way, assuming time and space are infinite, it's trivial to prove we aren't the first time it happened.

But I would expect that the appearance of UFOs as reported in this type of thing is really a sighting of someone testing a top secret project such as a military funded technology demonstrator run by one of the usual suspects, ie Lockheed or Northrop.

My boss worked at Lockheed for a few years and told me they had at one point been testing a flying, rotating disc. He described it as just like a Mars Attacks style saucer. Ive got no idea if that is true, and I don't really care. The basic premise--that we are seeing our own projects, not alien aircraft--seems logical to me.

So I don't think we're alone, but I find it hard to believe aliens are both sneaking around and getting caught. I think it's much more likely that we're the ones sneaking around and catching one another.

That's awesome--especially since it's from 1959!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avrocar

edit: Well, the reported actual flight ceiling was 3 ft and max speed was 35mph, so that particular couldn't have ever posed as a UFO imposter. Still a neat project IMO, and it shows some of the wierd projects we were making back in the day.

Yea and if that could do that back in 1959, imagine what something developed using modern technology could do.

Aren't all the most advanced fighter jets being used by the top militaries at least 20 years old?
