This is only true for type II.
Type I, simplified, means that your Pancreas does not work properly. This is why Type I sufferers have to inject insulin. No amount of diet control (short of not eating at all) will fix it. A healthy diet still plays a very important roll for a Type I, otherwise you risk damage to other organs. (Kidneys, Gall Bladder, etc...)

I became diabetic because of my liver transplant...it's one of the possible side effects, the put me on insulin therapy when I had my quadruple bypass.
