What do all of you do for work?
I'm 26 and I'm a mechanic at a Nuclear Power Plant in south Florida.. Been a journeyman for going on 3 years now. Basically my job is to maintain any equipment that supplies cooling water to the reactor. Mostly I work on different kinds of valves and pumps. I'm really fortunate to have this job because I really love what I do. I work long hours, frequently 7 days a week but, the money is great. I went to school for an electrical engineering degree but I managed to get into the plant as an apprentice and go through their internal apprentice program. I'm more interested in the mechanical aspect of the job so I went down that route. I also get to run gantry cranes and all kinds of cool, huge, equipment.. It's really like a video game sometimes doing my job.. I'm like a kid in toy store sometimes getting to work on equipment that's the size of a bus. We have several emergency diesel generators (12 and 16 cyl) that are the size of single wide trailer! It's also sometimes VERY physical and mentally straining. I recently had to go out for spine surgery due to a non work related injury, but thanks to my union and insurance I'm keeping my job and not losing any money..
I've done all kinds of odd jobs up until I landed my dream job and I'm hoping to move up into a supervisory position in a few years.. When I get back to work after my recovery I'll try to get some cool photos for you guys. My avatar is a picture of the unit 1 and 2 containment buildings right before the sun was rising.
If you live around a Nuclear Station I would contact their HR department and see if there are any openings. Money is good, fun job, great health insurance for you and your fam.. Good luck man, hope it all works out for you!

early 40's... accounting degree.... uggghhh... my regular job pays well and i own a very small part of a big company.... but in the past 15 years I have done a few other things that added up to good $.
Rental Houses - timing is everything but through the years I have owned about 30... I rented most but just fixed and sold a few so I probably averaged $15-$20k per house when you count rental income plus appreciation...
Mortgage Broker - if you hvae some knowledge to place the loans and some salesmanship to get a few realtors to send you stuff... I was a 50/50 owner and did more of the marketing than the actual placing of loans
Retail - I had a 15x15 Kiosk at our local mall, selling convenience store stuff.... fun as hell when i would work alone but holy crap employees can suck...and steal...etc...
I am always looking for something else to get started or an idea that no one else has thought of, design a website that is unique, etc...
$ is not everything...that is for sure.... it is cool having cool stuff but if you work yourself into a heart attack at 40, what was the point....
Good luck!

I'm the engineering manager (product development) for a large global manufacturer. My group designs new products, occasionally reverse engineers and improves the designs of other competitors and generally does something new every month (in some form or fashion). I prefer to manage than engineer but I still like to get my hands dirty (literally or figuratively, depending on the project), if only for a change of pace and to keep my skills somewhat sharp. The beautiful thing is, I get to choose when to manage and when to engineer - the best of both worlds, really. I'm also one of the four strategic managers in the company so I get to focus on the big picture outside of my group as well, which also makes for a (mostly) welcome distraction at times. Keeps me seeing the big picture, keeps me informed of what's happening in the world and lets me learn from people with more (or varied) experience.
