I didn't even think about this until now, if Cingular can beat the cost of cox internet minus basic cable then I'll probably do it.

Thanks for the suggestion
Yeah, I almost didn't think about this either. But I think our cable internet was 40, so for 20 bucks more a month, you get more mobility at the cost of download speed. But I think it's still a win. I'll check out Sprint, per the earlier person's suggestion.

I'm personally going to pull the trigger on some form of internet.

My options are as follows:
1. Cox high speed
$95.00 if you include the REQUIRED cable...which I won't need in graduate school

2. Dial-up...
Slow, but cheap, but I need a phone, or some method for tethering my cell to my laptop.

3. Wireless card

Tethering the cell to the laptop? What does that mean exactly?

Fwiw, I abandoned the home phone line for high speed internet and my cell phone. Between the free VOIP services and my cell service, I'm well connected for the phone.

By using bluetooth, I can let my PC "talk" to my phone and use it as a dial-up modem. The feature is there with my phone, I'm just not sure how well it will work, or if I can tolerate dial-up speeds.

Dell Laptops come with 6 months of free Earthlink or AOL dial-up service...so I can't lose by trying it.

I will NOT get a landline phone service unless, like my current residence, I don't get decent cell reception.

I get the Sprint internet card through work. It actually works surprisingly well! The internet is just about as fast as broadband.

As far as picking which carrier to go through, pick the one that has the best reception where you are the most. If you're going to use it at home a lot and Sprint has lousy service there, then go with Verizon.

The company pays 51.60/month for what it's worth.

Well. $10.00 more than Cox, and I don't need to get cable. That sounds like a great deal.

Since I get it through work, I can't promise that 51.60 isn't a special corporate or bulk deal. I suspect they must get some kind of discount since they pay for hundreds of them.

I'm sure a Sprint representative would be more than happy to discuss price with you

good luck!

Understood. I won't hold you to it.

Thanks for looking out.
