Another thread about watches. S2000 owners sure love their time pieces.
Rolex, without a doubt, is the most recognized of the luxury brands.
If you've got the change laying around, go for it Stu (you big baller )
My vote also goes for the Patek for that price, but I think that's too subtle for you

The most expensive watch I have is a TAG. It retails at $1500 and I think no matter how much money I have I wouldn't spend any more than that. BTW doesn't Rolex own TAG?

I sold watches for many years...so I will chime in. I have 17 watches. 5 of them are Rolexes. I like them. Its like a hobby. Rolex's are status symbols, but also more than that. A rolex tells you "youre doing alright" Tells other people, you have class. Now, a Rolex presidential, while a great quality watch, is HIDEOUS. Its gaudy, and you will look like an overpaid rapper wearing one. It is a watch MADE for a retired 55+ man who lives in a country club.....etc....thats who that watch is for. Also, a Rolex is a great investment. It will NEVER go down in value, (esp. pres), you can always sell it, and they last forever. If you want a nice Rolex, go with a Daytona, or something rare like Air King. The main thing with me...be it cars or watches...etc....Lets take a good example.....a Porsche 944 Turbo S. It is by no means a pretty car. No one will break their neck looking at it, nor will it impress the ladies at the blvd. on a saturday night. However, a real Porsche enthusiast will highbeam you, thumbs up, etc...get my drift....most people dont know that it IS the BEST handling porsche ever produced...with very high power potential. Same thing with watches.....I wear a Rolex Air King as an everyday watch. To the average person....it looks like a timex.

But to people that know watches, it is a very rare and desired Rolex. So in my opinion, when it comes to things like this....it is better to get 1 comliment from someone who appreciates that finer things in life, rather than 100 from people who like the bling bling.

You have a fine taste in watches Wantone! However, I don't think the Lange 1A comes in white. It has a solid guilloched gold dial. The one with white face will be a regular Lange 1.

I have an IWC Mark XV watch and lusting over a Portuguese Chrono in Steel. Someday, I will have a Lange 1 with blue dial

Cheers,

PY

Rolexes are played, but there's a few that stand out, like the Daytona chrono... (nice taste wantone)

Other than Rolex, there's Seiko (who ironically made their fortune by stealing Rolexs' design), Cartier and Dunhill, my three most favorite timepiece makers.

If you're not a jeweler or makin some serious $$, why get a Rolex?

Yea.....even Tourneau offered to buy it from me for $1000 more than I bought it for. Another watch that I own a Girrard Perrigaux Ferrari, is very rare, and most people think its just a fancy chrono with a red face. However, I have been complimented on it by a watch collector who said I have good taste....that makes me happy. Having a bunch of stock brokers say how "dope" my 24K presidential is , is not what I am after. Rolex Daytona is one of my favorite watches. (I have 2 in steel with a black face and a white face)

Rolex watches are great, no doubt. However, I think the marketing blitz from Rolex in the 80's and 90's really stigmatized the brand.

A lot of people wear Rolex watches purely for the status symbol. Even common lay people know what a Rolex is, so I believe it actually carries with it a negative connotation.

While in St. Thomas two years ago, I was torn between a Daytona and an Omega Seamaster 18k rose/Ti watch. I ended up going with the Omega because I wouldn't have to deal with the harassment of my fellow co-workers for having a "ROLEX."

Friends and family that know nice watches complement my choice frequently and I don't have to deal with any harassment or jealousy from my co-workers.
