What does a Rolex say about a person??
Omega is no way "cheaper" than Rolex in any way. They are great watches, bulletproof, good looking, and very subdued. Rolex just has a better name, but there are watches that cost over 100,000 bucks and I bet no one has even ever heard of them. (Franke (sp) Muller (sp)?)
Ok for all the "supposed Rolex experts" the name of the watch is Day Date NOT PRESIDENTIAL. The watch band is sometimes referred to as President band because the first version of the watch was given to a US President . If you really own the damn watch at least know something about what you claim to own.
If you bought correctly, years later you can sell your watch and break even, make a small profit or in the case of some models a good profit try that with a Casio. But as others have said it's the watch that the great unwashed reconize before a PP. I own a Sea-Dweller, SS/G Lapis dial Sub, Exp II, SS Daytona, Day-Date. Mostly now if I wear a watch it's a Breitling Emergency Titanium. When you retire suddenly you don't give a damn what time it is, you'll get there when you get there.
Lastly when people balk at the price of high end watches it's because the are thinking in terms of their own wallets. Some may not consider 20k as reasonable for others it's not a big deal.

some sexy watches I've always lusted after:
Jaeger LeCoultre Master Series* -- amazing!
Audemars Piaget's Royal Oak* (some styles)
Patek Philippe Nautiulus*
* any complications of the above watch makers
a very respected, highly durable brand to consider is Omega.
and sorry, but IMHO... BVLGARI style has always been so
gaudy "Look I'm a BVLGARI! It even says so!" Reminds me of Gucci, YSL, etc. and other couture that has to show off the brand name to be recognised as expensive. once again, just my $.02
You're right, I don't have much.. scary!!
As for the Bvlgari, I saw one in a movie once, and said I have to have it.. such is the way I buy stuff. If I want it, I buy it regardless of wether its a good buy or not. I wouldn't say gaudy, but I would say its very in your face..
When it comes down to it, I get more people commenting on my Seiko then my Omega, which over the years, proves to me that unless someone nows watches they have no idea whats on your wrist.

Not that any of this matters... But:
President is the UNofficial name of the Day-Date. If you say President in the context of Rolex most people will know exactly what you mean (the Day-Date model). You may find some folks will get uppity and correct you when you call it a President, or Presidential, but that's another issue. Officially the word President will refer to the type of Rolex bracelet.
Most Rolex watches will fall under the Oyster category. There are several different types of Oysters, and one of them is the Day-Date model. If you ask any jeweler to see a Rolex President, he will show you a Day-Date model. No harm, no foul.
It's kind of like saying Motor when you mean Engine.

i got a rolex datejust president. the band is the jubilee. i assumed president referred to the basic style of the watch. and day-date meant it had the day and date on the dial, whereas my datejust only has the date, and the basic run of the mill presidents dont have anything, just the hands.
moreover, daytona refers to the chronograph style watches, submariner refers to the diving style watches, and so on down the line. preseident to me is referring to the style of the family, and daydate, datejust is like a subcategory.
i never heard it referred to as a presedential, nor have i seen it in any literature as that
