What kind of .45 should I get?

My preferred weapon for home protection is a 20 ga shotgun with a shortened barrel, pump action assault grip and simple bird shot.

It will knock down an intruder. If you have ever pointed a gun at a real person you know its becomes very important for you to be able to hit the target, and can be VERY hard to do in a stress situation.

The shotgun can be fired from the hip without much aim.

The 20 ga wont go through 4-5 sheetrock walls and hit your 2 year old in his bed in the other room.

My favorite handgun is definitely the Desert Eagle .44 mag. It shoots a hot load, exploding round that will go in the size of a dime and come out the size of a watermelon. Ejects overhead for side by side or in vehicle use and can stop just about anything. Someone said this gun is barrel heavy, but thats in the store. Remember that 10 .44 rounds weigh a good bit. have to try it LOADED then its in balance. As you fire the balance shifts forward and counters your natural tendancy to aim higher in multiple round fire.

Have a nice day

PS with regard to the comment about everyone getting rid of their guns...Just click your heels together and say theres no place like home. Aint gonna ever happen in the real world, and if it did then the biggest guy would be in charge like in the feudal societies of the middle ages.

Unfortunately, the have, always have had, and always will have weapons, all the while offering you soothing words telling you why you don't need them. George Washington called firearms "liberty's teeth", and he was right.

Government is the most efficient machine ever devised for killing people. Consider Hitler

1. The Glock is smaller yet it has a larger magazine capacity (10 + 1 in the pipe)

2. The Glock doesn't have a safety.

Twice the number of kids died last year playing football for school then they did in school shootings.

Want me to give up my guns because they are considered "unsafe", there are things that are far more dangerous then my guns. Get rid of them first, and then we will talk.

I'm always puzzled by this argument. Is this the equivalent of "Johnny did it, so I did too". What I am doing is looking at this as a weighing up of 'PRO's' and 'CON's'. Cars move us around, that's their primary purpose. One side effect is some people get killed. I've tried to make the corresponding statement about guns, but it just sounds too patronising.
