Huh? The .44 DE holds 8 in the OEM clip plus one in the pipe, making 9 rounds possible...unless of course you've got a different sort of clip than me!

The DE is a very good weighted gun. It has to be heavy to help with the recoil. It's NOT a good home protection weapon. Chances are, it'll be dark, and as soon as you fire it, you'll blind yourself with the muzzle flash which will extend about two feet in all directions, thus rendering your next few shots hopelessly inaccurate.

I'm always puzzled by this argument. Is this the equivalent of "Johnny did it, so I did too". What I am doing is looking at this as a weighing up of 'PRO's' and 'CON's'. Cars move us around, that's their primary purpose. One side effect is some people get killed. I've tried to make the corresponding statement about guns, but it just sounds too patronising.

Cars are a luxury. If all we needed them to do is move us around, why have radios, leather setas, power mirrors, convertibles, etc. All we would need is a good ol' Yugo. No we need to have better things. SUV's that seat nine to transport one person to work with.

Is anyone else waiting for the point to this post?

If cars are a luxury what are guns? A foible?

Let's face it, how many of you have actually had to protect yourself from government oppression or home invasion with a gun. 99% of your reason for gun ownership is penis extending bragging rights (active sports shooters excluded).

The argument that guns are a means of promoting freedom is interesting. When I think of freedom fighters I think of Abraham Lincoln, JFK, Martin Luther King, Ghandi and Tom Newman (Australian). Whatever happened to them? Can anyone tell me?

When you argue for your right to own guns you are arguing for the right to have your children gunned down at school, or in a drive by, or by some cop who's not willing to take the risk that the offender may not be armed.

The idea that you could protect yourself against government oppression with a gun kills me (bad pun). I'm trying to picture the guy who didn't get shipped off to Stalin's gulags because he had a 9mm handgun .

Mass oppression requires mass complicity (armed forces, police, informers etc), and resistance to that requires mass rebellion. What those who argue they need guns to protect themselves against their leaders are suggesting is that they feel a very real threat of imminent civil war. That may have been reasonable when the founding fathers drew up the constitution, but now? Come on guys, you live in a modern democracy. Saying you distrust your government that much is tantamount to saying you don't trust yourselves. Who voted for them for heaven's sake? Down here the government's more scared of us than we are of them, and we don't need guns for that! For those who believe their leaders are conspiring against them I've got some reds under the bed here for you, and don't forget the aliens, they're up to no good too .

As for freedom, the freedom to walk down the street without the fear of being shot by some lunatic is one I value very highly.

Boy us Aussies are on a role today.

Here's a thought. The cop/feds/junta want to get into your house. If they think youare armed it's gunna be much worse than if they suspect you are not. If, during the raid, you pull you pee-shooter out it's going to get very messy before it starts getting any prettier.

And if you want to use 200 year old history as your argument I suggest you install a guillotine in your back yard just in case those French aristocrats rear their ugly heads again.

This point is so obvious we all seem to have missed it.

I stand corrected, sir. The Illegality issue referred to by MSNBC was about converting these semiautomatic weapons to fully automatic weapons. Machine guns are illegal, I believe.
