what would you ask jesus
In the Old Testament times before Christ, sacrifices were offered up to God for the absolution of sins (no, not people). After Christ, all that is needed is to accept Him as Lord and Savior. Iff the world is only 1% Christian, according to the Bible, yes only that amount will enter into Heaven.
[QUOTE=KaiWang,Dec 10 2004, 12:38 PM] commandment #1
I AM THE LORD THY GOD, THOU SHALT NOT HAVE strange gods BEFORE ME.
I think the catholics are all going to hell.. they worship their pope (and saints ) like he was god himself...

if i fuk a goat. i have sinned
if i then offer that goat up as a sacrifice, then im ok.
sorry guys i dont mean to offend people... when i was an innocent little boy, i used to go to church. then my parents sent me to a christian private school.
EVERYDAY we had 1 period dedicated to the bible. orig king james version in old english i might add.
EVERYDAY we would translante the bible, analyse the bible, memorize verses. you name it.
6 years of this intense bible study made me understand really what the bible is about.
then i searched for the orgins of the bible. i wanted to know who assemebled this book of absolute truth..
search.. you'll be surprised how your old and new testiments came about.
money, power, control. it originates from the HOLY roman empire under the Emperor Constantine and his newly formed roman catholic church.
btw i thought only god can be HOLY. oppps

Jonboy - I agree with everything you've said. However the part about a Christian losing their salvation or Christianity, I would have to disagree. Salvation is given by God and is an act of God. For man to be able to "undo" what God did, I don't think that is possible. In the Bible, it says something to the effect that noone can be let out of God's grasp once they're saved. Also, the idea that salvation can be lost, diminishes what Christ had done on the cross. I agree, if being a Christian means involvement mostly from man, then I can see how you can "lose" something since man's nature is evil and is prone to failure. However, Christ plays a far more prominent role in a man-Christ relationship. The Holy Spirit works in you and makes it very uncomfortable if you sin. If a Christian truly understood the cost involved in God sending His Son to the cross, from my experiences, I just can't see how it is possible for a Christian to go back to his old ways - the man is a "new creation" and is "born again" (yes trite expression). Yes, a Christian can falter but not to the point where he will revert back to his old self. The Holy Spirit will always be there, tugging at your spirit, guiding you.
The debate of "eternal security" is rampant among Christian circles so it's understandable. But at least it isn't that fundamental (along the lines of the gospel message) and therefore not as critical. Not an attack on you bro.

66% chance of winning? is that because you are estimating that 66% of the world populatin is christian? what about the period in earth history when the bible did not exist ( not even the old testiment )? does that mean 100% of the population back then had to go to hell? What about when less than 1% of the earth population believed in christianity? does that mean 99% of the rest of the population had to go to hell? what about all the nice jews running around today? do they all go to hell? what about all the nice budists running around the world today? do they also go to hell?
christianity seem to want to hold the monopoly on heaven - only through christ can u enter heaven. no other means.. thats an absolute.
oh yeah.. what about the trillians of space aliens out there that arnt christians? are they also going to hell?
doesnt take a philosophy degree to see that this whole christianity idea has basic flaws.

Of the three possible scenarios that I could think of, I win in two of them. That's where I got the 66.67% chance of winning from.
Simmer down - it'll all be okay.

Oh, I'm sure you can find flaws in Christianity IF you assume that philosophy is right, period.

ever see the vadican chistmas specials on tv live? my god... the way they worship and present the pope you would think he WAS god.
surrounded by opulence. siting on a great white throne.. i especially get a tickle out of the ceremony where the pope stands in front of this great white gate. raise his hands and the gates open. then he steps through and all is dark.. and he mumbles some latin no one understands and the chamber fills with light. then he goes and sits on another throne inside and children representing all countries come up to him bearing gifts.
whats the message? the pope/church holds the key to the gates of heaven. they can create light - something i thought only god can do? "in the beginning, there was darkness and god created light blah blah blah".
I also noticed the constant reference to the pope as "his holy father" - as chris rock would say "the pope is going to HELL!"
god they are REALLY good at marketing. religion is a very big business. tax free business i must add.
even hollywood could not dream up such a grand display.
i cant wait for this years xmas special from the vatican.. maybe they will have the pope part the red sea or something.

1. The Bible speaks of peoples' names being removed from the Lamb's book of Life. So, obviously, you can come in and go out (or rather, you have a chance to come in, and you can lose it - depends on how you look at it). However, one could argue (successfully) that you can only go out if you never came in (truly). This is a whole other topic, which I will gladly discuss in PM. It's going to take a while, though.
2. Hbr 6:4 For [it is] impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
Hbr 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
Hbr 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put [him] to an open shame.
Those scriptures clearly speak of a coming to God, then a leaving of God. You can't have the Holy Ghost unless you are saved. Ergo, you can lose your salvation, based on these scriptures. Esau had a chance, but he missed it and though he sought it later with tears, he couldn't get saved.
There is more to this, but again, I'd prefer to discuss it in PM - it's a little outside the parameters of this thread.
No attack perceived. I think we agree on this topic, it's just that the semantics of explaining it are, at best, a bit tough.

Furthermore, the sacrifice had to be pure. After you got finished with it, the goat wouldn't be pure. Ergo, no, you'd not be okay.
EDIT: Just out of curiosity, why in the world did you choose a goat for your example?!?! You're really scaring me...
