Just checked with HoK today... Leathermans are not allowed to be sold from their store ONLY... they ARE allowed and are legal to be sold in Canada. I guess the guy behind the counter last week was confused or something, please excuse the confusion.

If there is such a policy about leathermans, how come there isn't one for Swiss army knives?

If you are referring to the "illegal" aspect of selling a leatherman, THERE IS NOT one. Just as you can buy/sell a Swiss Army knife, you can also easily buy/sell any leatherman. That "reliable source" that was mentioned, was "premature conjecturation".

I never stated it was fully illegal and I checked up and followed up, and it turned out not to be illegal. Simple as that. And for the record, Dave, it wasn't premature conjection. I was going off word-of-mouth (hence the word "grapevine", *NOT* "reliable") and it turned out not to be true. I never ONCE stated it as 100% true. I just stated what I thought would be relevant, important information that I had heard.

Now, back on topic, I would suggest a couple of good shirts, if he is more of a classy guy maybe some nice cologne, or if he is into motorsports, maybe one of the "Year in Review" DVDs showing up in stores now. I'll post some more suggestions later tonight
