Kohls fits the bill...good, quality stuff, great prices...you'll find nice dress pants for $25-40, full suits for $150-200, dress shirts $20-40. And the styles are usually pretty damn similiar, or idential to the big names (BR, RL, PE, etc)

I'm thinking that Sunday I'll drive 45 minutes to a city that has an outlet mall. Here are all the outlet stores they have:

I'm sure I'll find at least some decent clothing there.

I'm surprised no one mentioned this. (Formerly known as Structure)

Do it in stages,
Stage 1
shirts and khakis from target, kenneth cole, suits from Bananna republic.
Get good shoes

Stage 2
shirts from brooks brothers, Suits from Saks(clearance) and everything else, Top coat, gloves, ties. Tiffany cufflinks(get them now beacause they go up 10 bucks every year)
Get good shoes

Stage 3
Not there yet?
but get good shoes.

great advice!

it's all about getting stuff in stages. don't spend big bucks on slacks and shirts just get them at ross, target, marshall's etc. but for the nicer stuff, like suits, coats and shoes go to nicer stores like banana, kenneth cole, etc.

Nordstom's, Macy's and Robinson's May (if you have them in your market) They will have stuff that can be decent on the clearance racks, but usually the sizes are large. Big waists and XXL shirts. None of that fits me.

Express, Armani Exchange, and Bannana.

There are plenty of stores that will sell business casual, but you can find things at the stores I mentioned that can pass as business casual but IMHO have a slightly younger "hip" look, without looking like a skater punk. They also cost a little more but have good quality.

You can do the Eddie Bauer-Land's End-J Crew style, but its more universal age and less "young" looking. Look for "athletic fit" or "modern fit" shirts. They make all the difference.

Whenever I want to spruce up the wardrobe, I like to take a nice trip to Vegas. Lots of good shopping at the Fashion Show mall and Ceasar's.

And while the shopping is good, I just like any excuse to spend some time in Vegas. My next excuse is Prince's new club........VEGAS!!!!!!

I buy two suits every year during the Men's Warehouse sale (dec-jan). They carry DKNY, Jones, Donna Karen, Calvin Kline, etc. But you can find lots of coats half price during the sale and it does not hurt to splurge on a real nice suit or coat for future interviews. Congrats on the new gig.

Lots of crap to dig through at a marshalls or a Maxx, but you will always find one or two really good shirts for CHEAP if you spend the time looking.

Found two top notch dress shirts I would have paid $50 each at another store, one was $12 the other $15.
