Default Who Else is Running XP?

Our office upgraded to XP Pro this week. I've only had limited time to explore it and am wondering... Is there really anything new that the average user will use?

It seems that every time there's a Microsoft upgrade there are one or two improvements that are worthwhile and a hundred more that nobody uses. What's the verdict with XP?

Anything new with XP? Compared to what? Compared to Windows 2000 Pro, it is just cute interface shit and a couple extra utilities (Remote Desktop stuff is cool, sorta). Compared to Windows 9x/Me, be prepared for a computer that doesn't, ok, rarely crashes.

Seriously, if you're coming from Win2k, and I'm betting you are, just be aware that they moved everything around to try to confuse you into thinking it's new.

Oh, but don't think that I don't like XP. It is the stability of Windows 2000 in a more home friendly package.

I run XP Pro at home, and the only thing that nibbles my nurbur (don't ask ) is that it does play a few of the older games I have... but thats it... and it hasn't crashed on me in like a year... which, in itself, is incredible

Ditto... it's a more easier interface for networking and just about everything else... so normal people can actually use it

I like XP. It doesn't really do anything for me that w2k didn't do, but I still like it. The best new feature is the new shortcut to lock your workstation (windowskey + L), it's easier than the 3-key salute. Not really a reason to upgrade, but it's the best new feature that I've found so far.

more than one person can log onto a computer at the same time. Cool feature. The networking seems to be more trouble than it should be though.

built-in wireless client manager is a definite plus.. great for laptops. it can be user-friendly, but can be switched over to advanced user-mode too for most functions.

it's pretty well supported now. i dont see a problem with upgrading.
