I resigned my commission as an Army officer just last year after 5.5 years active duty and 3.5 inactive reserve. If they call on me (yes, they can even though I resigned), I will go. I will sell my house, sell my cars, give up my well-paying job, and I will go. It's that simple.

BTW, think about this the next time you meet an armed forces veteran. It's easy to forget all the things they had to give up to go defend their country. One of the best things you can do when you meet a vet is to say "Thank you for your service to our country". Seriously. In all most every instance I've heard, a vet who is thanked in this manner has been greatly touched.

I should think that a sports car enthusiast would be an easy shoe-in as a tank commander.

You know Dave I've never thought about this until you mentioned it. It's never happened to me. I did it once to a fellow veteren that served in both the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. I don't even remember it happening when we returned home from Desert Storm or Granada. No matter, I served with pride and remember what it was all for. It's a nice thought and appreciated.

I would go in with an automatic or SNIPE! Put me on the line. Too bad I have a plate in my leg and I had asthma as a kid, I wouldn't tell them though. Not to mention if the lady and my parents found out I went, they would kill me on my return.

I posted this on another thread yesterday. I am also too old for the armed services. I flew the F4C Phantom during Nam. I would definitely abandon my profitable business and resume a flying career (with retraining, of course). I would prefer the F15, but the F16 would be cool too. Funny, but my wife asked me this question two nights ago. When she heard my answer, she said "I'm glad you're too old." I think a night mission over Afghanistan taking out terrorist camps and Taliban military assets would be better than sex. Fellow LA rally mates, please don't tell my wife (whom some of you have met) I said that.

Who do you think invented the IT field? DOD has been crunching info for a long long time.

I'd be glad to volunteer to fly a plane into Bin Laden's back yard!
