Denouncing and belitting are potentially racist acts. Not finding a particular race attractive is NOT inherently a racist act nor motivated by any sort of racism. It's an aesthetic issue...not necessarily a racial one.

Now, if the person were saying that I think all person of x race aren't good enough for me or that because you find x race attractive that you are stupid, blind, lower status, etc. then THAT would be a racial motivation.

okay, well i was there. i felt that the logic behind her reasoning was that all black guys were grotesque to her aesthetically. it didn't matter what they looked like, they were unattractive to her. this was only contingent on their ethnicity. i remember asking her if she found hispanics guys attractive and she said, "yes, some. " obviously, there are some inferred slights here that she never uttered to me for fear of being offensive. you don't have to be profound in your actions to be labeled a racist. intelligent people can do it in a number of other ways...

Just because you felt that there were some inferred slights does not mean that her motivation was racial. I don't see anything obvious about it...just too little information to make an informed, educated opinion.

I agree that you don't have to be profound in your actions, but finding blacks unattractive and Hispanics attractive is more obviously guilty of generalizing than being decidedly racist.

I can understand the sensitivity towards the issue, though...

So as far as you're concerned, if she honestly doesn't find any black men attractive, she's racist? Sorry, but I can't agree with that reasoning. I'm sure there are a few black guys out there who simply don't find white women attractive (even if 99% of the general population finds them to be) but I wouldn't call any of those men racist. You like what you like. Sometimes it can be that simple.

Maybe she doesn't find some particular aspect that blacks are genetically predisposed to have to be very attractive. Who knows. However, just because she's never met a black she'd date doesn't mean she's racist. I've never met a Greek girl I'd consider dating, but it has nothing to do with having anything against Greeks...just that I haven't found one I wanted to date.

Are you saying that you know for a fact that even if she met a black person that met all of her criteria that she would absolutely not consider dating them based on race?

I think they are related though.

I only date people I'm attracted to. I'm attracted to the people I date.

Hmmm...ok...I shall adapt my statement. Are you saying that, in order to not be considered racist, that a person must find every race to be physically or aesthetically pleasing?

I find this an impossible standard, as there are certain genetic predispositions that certain races may have that someone may just not find appealing.

Not finding something attractive is an ENTIRELY different ball of wax from finding something repugnant or beneath oneself.
