I've dated outside my race 90% of the time and here's my take. If a woman doesn't find a certain race appealing, that is not a racist thought any more than if she said, "I don't find alcoholics or obese men appealing." She's not saying those visually deflected aren't productive members of society or admirable people...she's just not attracted to them. I've dated black women and have had comments get back to me such as, "she's pretty hot for a black girl" and yes, THAT is a racist statement.
People are so afraid to talk about race because they think by doing so, they are talking about racism. You can't make everything in life between cultures a racist issue. I'm not particularly attracted to blondes but there sure are some hotties out there and I've met more than a few I would have loved to have dated...I just find women with long, dark hair more attractive.
For you guys, If you're black, asian, hell...white and the girl you're interested in doesn't find men of your ethnic background appealing, move on to those who do.
In the end, would you want to spend time with someone so quick to dismiss you based on an asthetic first impression? Shallow, I say.

they are related, but in this instance not synonomous. the whole thing with her started with her telling me she didn't date black guys. i asked why. she said she didn't find them attractive, so i started going what about...nope, what about...nope, and so on, for like twenty people. she said nope to every single one of them. accordingly, i think of her as a racist...(with her fine ass)

Generalizing...good word. Question is, does generalizing automatically mean being racist? Did she say she doesn't date black men because she feels they are beneath her or did she say she doesn't date them because she's not attracted to them? Granted, either way she is generalizing, but only one of these truly seems to border on racism.

Yes, I think that if she said she hated a race because she didn't find them attractive and they deserved to die I don't think anyone would argue that is racist.

However, saying "I don't date black guys" is a far cry from saying that black people should die (or are lesser people, even).

Trying to lump the two together isn't particularly any more open minded than generalizing that all people of a race are a certain way.

Generalizing is a common form of speech used to label things for ease of conversation among other things. Some of the motivations for generalizing are harmful and negative in their intent, but far more are innocent and only meant to paint a picture using broad strokes.

Take for instance the comment "Honda's suck."

Does the person saying this really have empirical evidence that every single Honda that has ever been built really does suck or are they generalizing to make a point that a certain specific Honda that they have experience with is undesireable?

I'm guessing the latter.
