They are nice.....right up until the point when you walk away, in which time, they begin to curse you out.

To defend the OP while using your post as ammunition....

What you are basically saying is, the "guest" culture should adapt and follow the customs of the native culture right?
They should at least understand it.

As other's have said, in India, people typically start the day later and tea breaks in between the major eating times. I was in India a few weeks ago and must say I prefer their eating lifestyle.

The guys the OP is dealing with are most likely FOBs here on contract work. They don't assimilate to their surroundings and keep with their own eating timetable. Also, in terms of tipping, like most FOBs tipping is just not a part of the dining experience.

Finally, I hate to say it, but in India, waiters are on the same level as servants. This attitude is slowly changing with the younger urban set, however the rural or older generation still have this mindset.

I had so many people tell me, "Happy Easter." Maybe if these people took a minute to realize that I don't celebrate easter they wouldn't bother me. I didn't go to everyone saying, "Happy Holi".
Happy Holi by the way...

Interestingly enough, Canadians ask the same question.

I'm not Indian, but I seem to eat late. I don't want to and I don't like to, infact, I know it's not as healthy as eating early. But things happen and either I don't get home at a decent time or I have things to do when I get home (exercising, washing clothes, stuff for work, etc.) so a lot of times I don't get around to eating dinner til about 9 or 10pm. I really would like to change that though.

Even when I go out to eat, ,it's that late sometimes (but I go to places that stay open later - local bars, Friday's, etc.) Though I have gone to an Indian restaurant around 9 or 9:30pm, but onjly once.

Now here's something ironic. Last night I made an Indian dish, Chicken Tikka Masala and I ate it...at 6:30pm! I can't remember the last time I ate dinner that early. Sure wish I could all the time though.

Yeah, I stayed in Normandy for a few weeks and everyone I talked to was very nice and helpful. It seemed as if you acknowledged them in french, then they would automatically continue the conversation in english which was nice.

Are we talking about Indians as in Cowboys and Indians.....or Indians from India?

Either way, most likely it's the group of people that like to eat at your restaurant and at a certain time of night.

Why not politely ask them what they have been up to? Maybe their answer might explain why they rollin so late.

As for their tip... your lucky to get the 10%..... I wouldn't complain.
