why do people create their own financial misery?

It is still the most effective. Works like a charm.
sexual frustration... haha. i jumped him when he came home.
I didn't take time to read this whole thing but considering what your wife does I would think you would know how prevelant fiscal irresponsibility is. Between keeping up with the Jones' and the ease of getting credit even for those that are unworthy it is a vicious cycle. It will get worse down the road as many people are using their home like a line of credit these days and unless they change their ways (not likely) it will bite them even harder down the road.
i know a guy who bought a house in tampa, fl 5 years ago for 120k...he has since refinanced his house every year and now the house is worth 300k and he owes the whole thing...hes happy now but will he be happy when hes retired?

i don't doubt that your book says TRANSFER PAYMENTS account for almost half of our government spending when transfer payments encompass SOCIAL SECURITY. well no shit... social security is our biggest governent expenditure, but i wouldn't consider that "welfare" or at least the kind we've been discussing in this thread.
the kind of welfare we were talking about in this thread was stuff like section 8 housing, food stamps, etc. which accounts for a meager part of our federal budget - i still stand by that statement. there's no way in hell that we spend more on welfare programs than we do on military... and that's common sense. anyone with eyes and ears should know that. unless of course you want to count social security as welfare.

Scroll down towards the bottom of the graph.
We do spend more on welfare than on the Military.

there's NO WAY in hell that welfare accounts for nearly half of all federal spending. that is absolutely ridiculous. a simple wikipedia search says this:
As of September 2004 the U.S. Congressional Budget Office reported that federal government spending for 2004 was projected to be $2,293 billion, or slightly less than 20% of the GDP. Of that, $159 billion was for net interest, $486 billion for defense, $492 billion for Social Security, $473 billion for Medicare and Medicaid, $191 billion for various welfare programs, $136 billion for "retirement and disability" benefits, and $64 billion was projected to be spent elsewhere.
Wikipedia: search results for "Government Spending"
More in depth search brings up Bush's 2006 budget... PDF files with break down of spending for each dept. No surprise, Dept. of Defense is the largest file. $419.3 billion is projected military spending. Health & Human Services is $67.2 billion, Housing/Urban Development (Scot's Section 8 buddies) is $28.5 billion and just for good measure we'll throw in Dept. of Labor, which isn't even really welfare, but they handle unemployment, they're $11.5 billion. But all 3 of them combined ($107.2 billion) is NOTHING compared to our whopping $419.3 billion dollar military budget.
See for yourself....
who the hell is D. Hyman?

I could go into the section you just quoted, & change figures/facts around to suit my needs.
Wikipedia is pretty much useless.

birth control is a wonderful thing.
i wonder if these girls realize how much having a kid will alter their life completely?? sometimes i see other people's babies and this maternal feeling wells up inside me but i know that there's no way in hell i'm ready to have a kid, or will be ready for a long time. so every day i pop my anti-baby pills. it's that easy. i even get 'em for free... OR if you can't even handle the responsibility of remembering to take a pill once a day... you could do depo shots. once every 3 mos. or something like that. how hard is that?

The excuse for not working is "who is going to watch my kids"? The $5.15 / hour job would not even cover daycare for 2-3 kids.
One of my section 8 tenants has a really nice pretty and friendly daughter.... unfort she is now a single mom at barely age 18. Probably will totally ruin her life. she has applied for section 8 for herself.
One of my employees also has an 19 year old daughter who is now pregnant with zero future. The "Dad" already has 2 kids to someone else. She has already applied for Section 8.
What a bunch of ****ing idiots.
