why do rich people want to keep making money

Sometimes rich people make money as a consequence of their work. By being good at their work, they make more money... the incentive is to be good at their job, not to make more money.
it's like saying if you were a champion race car driver...would you stop after winning your first race? No...
Those people are spending money to make money aren't they? How many people wouldn't have good jobs today if Bill Gates hadn't been allowed to make more than 10 million? If they are spending money to make money someone else is making money off them too most of the time. Jobs are created, and even more taxes go to the gov.
I think it is a stupid policy to continue to tax the rich, to make them pay for a bigger share of the taxes. as far as who drains the economy more, it is the poor people. so why should we continue to reward them, even give them money? obviously they weren't good enough with it in the first place.
Look at the yankees. Are they a rich baseball team? hell yea, but they also spend tons to be that way. Microsoft, google...how much money do they spend to make more money? and why do they make more money? to employ all those nerds. they go buy houses, cars, take trips, buy consumer goods that someone is making somewhere.
So instead of complaining about the rich, get off your lazy ass and do something about it... don't let someone else be your boss...

Your gripe should really be with people who inherit their wealth. I have no problem with uber-rich people who made it on their own that way. Unless they're dealing drugs, they probably affected the economy in a positive way on their way to the top (Richard Branson, for example).
Then you get people who just get a boatload of money for merely being born into it. They don't have to really do or contribute anything. And if they want, they can sit there and blow insignificant money (to them) on whatever lobby or politician that suits their purpose at the top. For this reason, Warren Buffett chose not to give all of his wealth (tho still significant) to his children. But whatever, that's the way i tis. Most of them all seem to end up spoiled like Paris Hilton.
Though I've asked the other question myself. After x billions...it just seems pointless. I'd start dicking around with technology in my spare time (which several wealthy people have done, the X-prize has a lot of private entries, etc). After my nth billion, I'd probably start pouring it into research projects that interest me, like cheaper maglevs.

Because life isn't fair. Because living in the US gives you a chance to earn huge amounts of money. Because most people want their kids to enjoy life and like it or not many of the free experiences require money and lot's of it. Watching the free sunrise this morning in Lanai required a buttload of cash to get here and enjoy. Because it's a scorecard of what you have done with your life.
The real question is why given all the chances this wonderful country offers us, why people refuse to work hard and prosper. This F'en sense of entitlement for example, rather than use money to invest you have Joe Six Pack getting into debt for F'en car payments or rims or exhausts . Many kids parents are too stupid to teach their children how the stock market works, but they sure can teach them how to carry credit card debt can't they? Gotta have the Plasma or LCD tv, gotta have some metro sexuals idea of what is in fashion. How many times have you seen some moron wearing designer sunglasses ,jeans and shirt yet not have 50 bucks in cash to his or her name.
Besides what's rich? Most people compare wealth based on the size of their own wallets.

i think i started a thread just like this a few years ago.
I agree with you dyhappy..... no clue why a guy like larry whatever his name is from Orical needs to pay himself a $50M a year salary when he already has a net worth of $1B.... what is the point?
I personally think $10M would be a nice place to stop and enjoy life, do nothing but volenteer, travel and try to make the world a better place.
Andre Agassi is a good example... he and stefi graff have $500M. so now they are out to make more $ building condo's and clothing and other shit.......I am certain he gives away a bunch of $ but why have the grief of trying to make $$$$ when he cannot even spend the interest on his current net worth...

I do it because I can. I like it, I'm good at it and it's what I do.
You sit on your butt and gripe, I am a productive citizen doing good for me, my employees, the state and the country. You see, I actually add productivity and jobs for people. You, on the other hand, are just a drain.
End of story, now back to the salt mines.

Lol.. a wealth cap of a few million. Now that's funny, and probably the worst economic idea in history.
Rat face is a hip-hop producer.
Bill gates donates billions of dollars. If not for the rich, philanthropy would be dead. The government is absolutely not fit to handle any of our money now.. what makes you think they would be capable of utilizing the funds stolen after enacting a wealth cap?

question is, do u think there is any reasonable reason for a person to have uber-millions of dollars?
It is one of the basic principles of our capitalistic society.
