Let's see some results..

PICS!!!

BTW, cardio is very important. Without cardio, you would look fat. I've been running alot lately. I don't want to be big and fat anymore. I'd rather be cut. I was at a certain weight and fat. I looked big at the clubs, but with my shirt off I looked fat. I'm 10lbs lighter now and I'm more cut.

I agree, supplements are a complete waste of money. the only supplement worth investing in are good quality protein powders like 'isopure' (if you cant get enough protein through real food). Another note, soy protein is not a 'complete' source of protein, its made from beans and beans will not build muscle, and soy is known to have estrogen by products, so stay away from SOY. 'Complete' protein sources that build muscle come from fish, chicken, learn red meat, dairy products.

You want pics?

Here I am during my bulking up cycle reading 'Muscle & Fitness' while doing a 12 week deca/d'bol stack. You should see me when I'm 'ripped' man. Wish I could stop pissing blood though.

Bodybuilding quiz question# 1:

Which needle hurts most?: 19 gauge or 23 gauge?

But seriously, I couldn't agree more about the complete nutrition aspect of it. It was a fleeting interest there for 15 years or so but my gym rat days are long gone and at 45 I'm now more interested in staying slim and healthy. Walking, occassional hi-rep light weights, rowing, swimming ... the 'normal' sane stuff. Just basically keeping the middle age spread in check

Disclaimer: I have the utmost respect for natural bodybuilders and none at all for steroid users.

Why do people workout?

Hmmm....

Personally, I did it to get bigger. I was a skinny kid coming out of highschool. I was cut b/c of all the sports that I played, but just thin, b/c I would rather be outside playing then inside eating.

Since highschool, I've put on 50lbs of muscle. I think I look better and definitely feel better.

Working out has so many advantages. For instance, if you play alot of sports, it helps you get an edge on a person that doesn't workout that much. For example, let's take the sports that I play alot of: basketball. It will help you box a person out easier with extra lower body strength. You can play stronger down in the paint. How bout football. I can't name all the ways it helps in this sport. Soccer. Extra power in the kicks. Not getting pushed around easily.

Beyond sports working out helps out in your social life also. From my experiences, girls prefer a guy that is muscular then a guy that has no definition. I go out alot and trust me, it helps. Again from my experience, you also get alot of respect from other people when your working out. For instance, at the gym or at the clubs, bars, malls, etc. People would come up to me and ask what I do or how do they get to that size.

I know most of the people at my gym. These guys are there just to get bigger and stronger b/c they want to. They want to look better and looking better means looking bigger. I guess some people wouldn't understand unless they have worked out intensively at the gym.

But if you didn't read most of my passage, just remember this:

CHICKS DIG IT!!!

Why you guys gotta mix business w/ pleasure.
My business (Dietitian/Exercise Physiologist), pleasure (S2K)

s2kpowerhouse, I'm pretty sure you are a great trainer, but just be nice to the s2ki community, because you are a noob you want to get to know these folks first.

I'll be a jackass and say that I'm one of the best. I worked w/ the OU football team during their National Champ years, wrote the book on Navy's fitness, published numerous articles regarding personal training and sports nutrition, published numerous clinical journals, such as JAMA, NEJM, Clin Nutrition, etc.
I was a trainer and/or sports nutritionist for numerous body building champs. The list goes on... I even had a celebrity as a client since I live in DC metro.
I'll even provide free advice when I'm not working or goofing off on the web/s2ki.

Secret to training for the perfect body consists of many factors, not just fitness "working out certain muscle groups" and nutrition, but also the biomechanics (the proper lifting techniques, and this differs among different body types, ie that's why most men and women lift different weights and with different forms), proper breathing technique, amount of sleep/recovery, stretching, mixing cardio w/ weights, rotating routines for optimal muscle growth, sports/client specific training, supplements, genetic, etc... It goes on forever.

That's why trainers get paid so well because we taylor to client's needs and wants. It all depends on what they want to do. If I get a scrawny little guy who wants to be like Arnie but all his family is tiny, well that's almost impossible, but a great challenge.

DeeGym is right. I was wondering when he was going to step up.

Professional advice: If you want to look good, seek out a personal trainer or someone with a degree and is nationally recognized (no offense for the trainers with license or cetificates, but personally I want the best) instead of a "friend" that tells you certain things works for them so you should try it, they may not have the same background as you in regards to fitness, nutrition, genetics, etc...
ACE, ACSM, NSCA, etc. there are many more certificates that requires BS/BA degrees to take their national certification exams that consists of both the paperwork aspect and the actual physical training aspect.
And if you find the right person with dual backgrounds of both exericse and nutrition, that's even better.

I wanted to be big when I was younger, but it was tough for me to look like Arnie because of my background. I can get bigger per se, but not BIG per se. Also, I realized that most girls perfer more leaner body vs bigger body, so unless you want to impress guys/yourself, go for the bulk/bigger size (most guys like that and are impressed), but if you want to impress the girls, go leaner.

My 2 cents.

I agree with DeeGym, but I choose to disagree with LT'S S2K on his personal training note. Ive blown alot of money on personal trainers in the past with only subpar results. Being a personal trainer myself, I can tell u that a trainer is only good for the beginner who cant tell a difference between a treadmill and a dumbell. It's not for the person whos been frustrated with gaining muscle and gettin cut after years of working out and not gettin results.

Gettin big and cut naturally comes from inner determination and motivation, not from a personal trainer who wants your $50 and has a degree in this and that. RESULTS should be your motivation. That means following a good program, hittin the gym 5 times a week w/ intensity and sacrificing good tastin food for healthy not good tastin food (note: anything that tastes good, is NOT good for u). I'm 205 and eat 600 grams of protein DAILY, do u think I do that just for the hell of it? NO, its cuz im devoted to working out and having a bad ass body that girls drool over, and that to me brings alot more satisfaction than sittin on my ass eating pizza and watchin sportscenter wishing I was out meeting girls.
