i think someone already said it but i'll say it again.

the reason possessing and distributing child pornography is illegal is ostensibly to protect the young girls/boys who are being exploited by the pornographers. the assumption is that they ARE in fact being exploited, and need the protection of the government. this is, and has always been, the only reason that pornography of that sort is illegal. I'd look up a few actual articles to back this up but I'm at work and that sort of searching might get me into trouble

in this case, the girl took photos of HERSELF. this proves that she was not being exploited, as you can't really exploit yourself. the government doesn't need to protect her from herself - even though in some cases our laws do just that (another argument for another post).

the fact that some of you guys are actually supporting this kind of action on the part of the government boggles my mind. yes, it is technically illegal... but they are following the letter of the law while COMPLETELY ignoring the law's actual purpose. i'm guessing the powers that be in this situation feel what she is doing is morally wrong and are taking that out on her.

i feel very sorry for this girl. she's obviously not in a great state of mind already if she's distributing naked pictures of herself ... and being arrested if anything is only going to make things worse. not to mention of course this mess is now all over the internet. she'll never have a normal life now. what they should have done was simply talk to her parents and get her into some counseling.

totally and completely. Yes child pron is illegal, but an underage girl should not be arrested for taking pictures of herself. I have no problem with her getting repremanded, but jail time/court is over the top.

I think everyone has to realize its not the fact that she took pictures of herself doing whatever, it was the fact that she was distributing it around the internet coupled with the fact that she's underaged.

Does anyone use their brain anymore?
Yeah, thebig33tuna does, and I agree with him. The key to kiddie $$$$$$ is exploiting underage kids. If you aren't exploiting underage kids, then where is the crime?

Put it this way: a lot of that anime $$$$$$ seems like it's based on some pretty young kids. Is it illegal to distribute cartoon $$$$$$ if the subject of the cartoon is or appears to be modeled on an underage body?

Well I was just going off the fact that you must be over the age of 18 to do basically anything. If the law was made to simply protect, then yes it was twisted around.

I also never said arrest was the CORRECT course of action, its just that it was somewhat justified. Seems like shes not oh so bright in the head, but then again it seems this is whats happening to most teenage girls now-a-days which is probably why they are making an example out of her..

And don't give me the oh, you should love nuddy pics of these girls, are you gay? I stopped caring about sub freshman college girls once I went to college. If your still getting your kicks to some highschool girl, YOU might be the one that needs counseling.

You know what the best part about high school girls is? No matter how old you get, they stay the same age.

If a 5 yr old was able to log on and upload pics onto a website I would arrest him cuz he is obviously too far ahead of the curve lol

it is illegal to PRODUCE, POSSES or DISTRIBUTE child pornography

She did all three...knowingly and willfully. Charge her, make it public, send out the message that we, as a society, are not going to take this from anybody and then quietly withhold adjudication and give her time served and send her on her merry way hoping she learned her lesson and found some self respect.

what's the problem the rest of you are having with this??? Do you think she is in the right here and should be commended for snapping these pictures or has the lawful right to produce, posses and distribute this crap to other kids?????

If I had a kid and they came home with that on their phone, you bet your sweet ass I would pressing charges.

Jeeezus christ!!!! sometimes I think if you guys had brains, you would take them out and play with them.
