I sure am.

We should really have a planetary defense system against such things.

Pretty hard to stop a chunk of rock that big from not hitting. You'd have to have some pretty big bombs to even budge it, much less break it apart or deflect it enough to make a difference. Even if you broke it up into a hundred pieces, it's still very very capable of destroying a LOT of life (albeit not all, which does lend some hope!). Perhaps we need to send up a drilling team to explode it from the inside.......

Well, you don't really need to destory it. We can explode a nuclear bomb close to it. Hopefully the shockwave produced by the explosion will cause the object to change its path. Even a little change will shift its obital path dramaticly. This would require much Math calc and the exact Megatonage of the Bomb it self.

Rich, Rich, Rich-

I am an avid amateur astronomer with a huge, computerized scope. I read Astronomy and Sky & Telescope magazines from cover to cover every month and follow the satellite tracking websites, particularly griffithobservatory.com and heavens-above..com. Trust me, in 15 years, we will have the technology available to track this sucker and somehow deflect it off course or destroy it. Please put aside your fears.
