is your car too nice?
(I don't have any patients for another 3 hours. Sitting in my office doing paperwork. Slacking off)
anyhoo.
Is your car too nice?
when I was in my last year of residency I took the plunge and got this car. It's as much money as all of my previous cars combined. I really enjoyed driving it but I hate to park it in public b/c I was afraid of what would happens to it while I was not there. I would drive my beater Civic around alot. I remember how painful it was to see the first ding.
Now that I make a little more money, I don't worry about it anymore. In fact it now has lots of dings and scrapes and I don't even care. I thought about upgrading to a really nice car but then the cycle begins anew. I would worry about the nice car getting dinged up. The other day someone took my antenna and I thought about it for one minute.
I am almost certain I don't enjoy the car as much as I did years ago. But then I don't worry about it like it's my child anymore.
So is the pain worth the pleasure?
anyhoo.

i don't like that i have to be more careful with my car versus a normal car when going over bumps, i don't like paying for premium gas and tires, i don't like worrying about where i park my car or if it will still be there when i come back to it, but i'm resigned to driving it until it dies
Im the same way. I freak out about anything - hairline scratch in the paint, scuff marks on the door sill - Its a PITA. Then again I don't make much money and I really want to take care of my stuff. For a lot of big $$ makers its just a car - I love my S too much though and don't park it where I can't see it and such.
i am in the same boat as you guys. since my S2000 is the first really nice car i have bought, i get really paranoid when leaving it in public. also, since my car was keyed a few months after i bought it, i am extremely cautious of where i park it.
my next car will probably be a fit, if i continue to live in the city. nice cars are just not safe here. i usually try to park next to cars that are more expensive than mine and have wide parking spaces because there are too many inconsiderate dumbasses in the world.
just last night i went to the mall and some old man in a blue cobalt opened up his door into my car. I purposely sat in my car and made eye contact with him so he would be more careful too!!! luckily it was light enough that it didnt leave a mark, otherwise i would have gone apeshit on this old man.

Ninh, it's normal. I'm in the EXACT same boat as you. I'm looking into getting a 911. I just am fearful of parking it in my own garage because that's where the paint gets the most damage from bicycles and other things scraping, being dropped etc. I don't have to worry as much about parking in public because most places I go have protected parking for me.
How are you going to get your luxo car if you have an empty office for 3 hours! Come on man hire one of those street sign people.
