Sorry, Paul Mitchell isn't "elite" or significantly better than any other hair care product out there, it is simply more expensive, and not that much more. I get my hair cut by a girl I know at an Aveda salon, and the actual price only dictates how often, not whether or not I go. I could care less what kind of shampoo they use. I would simply go there less if they raised their prices.

So basically, the owner of the salon wants the name recognition of Paul Mitchell, but doesn't want to pay for it. He wants his customers to pay for it. What is the point, again? If the Paul Mitchell name is supposed to bring more customers, wouldn't it pay for itself? I would agree with some of the other posters: If there is a need to raise prices to pay for shampoo, what are they using now? I have a hard time believing that it will cost an extra $5 in shampoo to wash a client's hair with Paul Mitchell products. Maybe $0.50, tops.

I knew you were a chiropractor, but I was wondering if you also owned a salon.

Ask your friend if he needs a partner. I wouldn't mind owning one myself, esp. in a crowded, upper middle class area. Some day soon, I'm going to open a business myself, but as of now, I'm not certain of what to open; maybe a Starbucks?
