Me and my friends were planning on holding up at a Gander Mountain by us.. If the Zombie Apocalypse were to ever happen.
Sounds like a plan, I'll have to fly out to Catalina then.
How can that not be social commentary regardless of the time?
If you've missed the social commentary in movies like Shawn of the Dead and the recent remake of Dawn of the Dead, it's not because it wasn't there.
On 10/25, the History channel will be showing a special on Zombies.

A look at both the old and new testaments of The Bible reveal numerous stories of the undead. We'll detail how Europe's Black Plague became one of the most prolific periods for myths and legends about zombies. Find out why Viking legends believed zombies were nearly indestructible except by decapitation or immolation. Examine other zombie legends from around the world, including secret stories of China's Terra Cotta Warriors and the voodoo rituals of Haiti. See how modern science added a whole new twist on zombies beginning with Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

TWD episode 2 was on last night. The episode was slow for the first 3/4 of the show, mainly focusing on Rick and how close to death's door Carl is. We also got to see the exact time Lori was told by Shane of Rick being shot (the beginning sequence from the season 1 premiere). Only one zombie was killed this episode when a lone walker was wandering through the forest and happened to find Andrea while the group was out looking for Sophia. She ends up getting saved by Maggie (one of the daughters of the Vet who is helping save Carl) on horseback who KO's the zombie with a swing from a bat. Maggie tells Lori of what is happening with Rick and Carl and takes her back to the farm. As the zombie begins to sit up, Daryl puts him down for good with an arrow from this crossbow.
As it turns out, the bullet that hit Carl was slowed down by the deer before it hit him, causing him to survive the shot. However the bullet fragmented into 6 pieces and each one must be removed. After 1 fragment is removed the vet informs Rick that he will need more equipment to be able to successfully complete the surgery. Since Carl will have to be put under, they need a respirator as Carl will have to be put under. Luckily, the nearby high school was set up as a FEMA triage however it has been overrun with zombies. Shane and Otis (the poor sob that shot Carl by accident) go to the school to retrieve the supplies. This was probably the most exciting part of the episode and Shane and Otis work at distracting the zombies, getting the supplies and escaping. Well 2 of the 3 was easy, but the escaping part, not so much. They end up being chased through the school and are being cornered. Shane shoots out glass door that leads into one of the buildings. As Shane and Otis enter the glass doors, they close the gate and secure the pin just in time to stop the horde. We are left with Shane and Otis trapped and the episode ends.
Good episode overall, looking forward to next week!

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Surging to record high ratings in the first two episodes of its second season, AMC's "The Walking Dead" just earned itself a third campaign.
Through the first two suspense-packed episodes of season two, AMC noted in its renewal announcement that the zombie-apocalypse drama has broken cable ratings records in the 18-49 demo.
Despite the turmoil that came with Glen Mazzara replacing Frank Darabont as show runner, hordes of viewers have tuned in to see the fate of sheriff's deputy Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his band of survivors.
The October 16 season premiere broke a basic cable record set nearly 10 years ago for a single drama telecast ("The Dead Zone"). The 90-minute episode scored a 4.8 household rating, and 7.3 million total viewers.
The 4.8 million viewers in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic represented a 36 percent uptick over last season's average. The 4.2 viewers in the 25-54 demo were up 38 percent.
