Default gas mileage?

So...was just wondering how everyone does on gas mileage around P-town? I seem to get horrible city miles but then again I sit on Hwy 26 every morning and night during rush hour which probably doesn't help. I took a spin down to Salem over the weekend and got GREAT gas mileage - easily 30 miles per gallon or more!!!! wow!

Anywho...Is this typical of the s2000? or what do you all normally get city vs hwy?

It depends on many factors: how heavy of a foot you have, do you accelerate rapidly, do you consistantly under/over rev the engine when changing gears (shifting early/late), do you spend long periods of time at a specific speed. With your car being so new, don't use the cruise control for awhile, wait for the first 1000 to 1500 miles before using it. (That is what the mechanic at the dealership said anyway. Something about not running at a consistant speed breaks the motor in more evenly.)

I would agree that my city mileage is not that great (maybe 21-22mpg). Probably because I can't keep my foot out of the VTEC when accelerating. On the other hand when I really open her up and let her go for a long cruise, I can squeeze out 320+ miles to the tank. Last fall I made the enitre trip from Vancouver (I filled up at the meeting point) around Mt. St. Helens and back to Tualatin on one tank of gas (Unlike some others in the group that needed to stop on the way back).

On my trip to Anaheim I averaged about 31mpg. Most of that was cruise control at 75mph.

The theory is that different loads on the motor helps seat the piston rings better, I've heard people claim that a good break in should include some hills and such.... sounds like a lot of speculation to me though, I'm sure cruise control won't matter much as you'd effectively be in the same rpm range with or without using it if you're on the highway.

fwiw- EDR builds pretty much every race bike that places in WMRRA and OMRRA it seems, and he does have a "secret" break in method for all new bikes as well as motors he builds... it involves something along the lines of an hour on the dyno under varying loads and rpms... again, could be speculation and/or marketing.

As for mileage, I've never checked, sorry, but I'm pretty sure it's below what the window sticker told me to expect

I regularily drove from Eugene to Tacoma (roughly 260 miles) and when I would do those drives it wouldn't be uncommon to get 320+ miles on one tank. (Those tanks would also involve a lot of highway driving besides the 260 miles between here and Tacoma.)

I'm in the same boat as the rest. about 20-22 in the city (vtec fairly often and dont mosey my way up to the posted speed either) and about 28-30 hwy (again, still fairly agreesive driving habits)

Here is what I average:

Lots O' Fun = 17-20mpg
City stop 'n go = 20mpg
Highway top down = 27-30mpg
Highway top up = 30+mpg

Either way, I'm happy because I the S averages more than my Evo.
