Default ECU Curiosity

Hey guys. Noob question actually. I was wondering what the differences between the two ECUs are. The 00-01 vs the 02-03. Thanks guys.

Leaner fuel maps. You'll score some on the butt dyno. Supposedly 2-3 hp gain overall and 5 hp on the low end. If you are looking at the one on craigslist it's an 00-01 ecu not the 02-03.

Are you sure about that?

That's why I said supposedly. No one has posted a dyno and 2 hp is within the error correction. So to each their own.

This falls under the category of, "If component X fails completely and needs to be replaced, replacing it with a different version makes sense."

Otherwise, putting the money towards stickier tires or performance driving education is going to make you much faster. And as far as I know (and please correct me if I'm wrong), the 02-03 ECU makes no appreciable difference when it comes to engine reliability or efficiency what's the point?

Agreed, and i've bought sticker tires and noticed a huge difference, money well spent. But besides that, like I said it was curiosity but I've found my answers digging more into the past threads here. Besides I was looking for differences not how much power one makes vs the other.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.....

The ENGINE CONTROL MODULE is the same for the 2000-2003.

So I don't think anything is going to change, other than you'll have to re-program your keys.

Actually, ya' know ya' might go faster..... cuz' your wallet will be lighter after buying a new one?

Digging a little bit deeper (all this ECU/ECM hype can't be for nothing, right? ), it looks like Honda is only currently selling/listing the 02-03 part number (37820-PCX-A02) and the 00-01 part number (37820-PCX-A01) has been put out to pasture
