Default sound systems

Hi all,

New to the pack, I have a 2001 which I have had for 9 months, and the sound system is stock, unfortunately the road noise is loud and the speakers deteriorate at the high end. Its pretty regrettable at high speeds. Car toys recommended a new amp, sound deading lead stick-on panels and for a total of 650 bones +. I think I'm being pitched.

Have I got a lemon system, or is this pretty standard? Has anybody got a satisfactory solutions?
Input please!

thanks,

Jon

Upgrade the front speakers, get rear speakers, and get a new headunit if you want.

Stock system does suck.

I can't complain. I have all stock speakers. I have no problems listening to my tunes at high speeds w/ the top down. Then again, I do have the headrest speakers as well, making a total of 6 in the ride.

Stock system is HORRIBLE.

I have a JVC head unit, Alpina Amp, JL Audio 8'' sub encased in a WLaurent enclosure, Kenwood Excelon front speakers, and rear panels with MB Quart components and it's A LOT better!!! All for $600, installed!!

gonna cost you more than 600 if you want "great" sound. $300-400 head unit, $300 amp, quality wires amp kit etc $70-100, Rear speakers $180. Cd change r $100, Front speakrs $100. Installl labor is also $$$$$$$

If you want to spend the least possible, go the lucid route. I just got the kenwood's, direct install into the stock head unit. It's about 5 times louder due to those speakers in the rears.

It's an easy install and basically solves the road noise problem at high speeds you are talking about. I could barely hear the music in my 01 when I was going over 70 in the past, now I have no problems.

One of the best decks out there:

Good price too.....start with a quality head unit and work your way up....this thing also has enough power to just use your stock speakers....at least for now.

That's why I bought it all used from S2ki and got hookups at Magnolia Hi Fi for installation!!
Mine sounds great, IMO. The Alpine amp runs the JL 8'' sub and the rear MB Quart components, the 200 watt JVC deck runs the front door Kenwood Excelon speakers. I have the Pac-X but it's not programmed yet because I am a very lazy person!
