Pocket Wizard Plus II Transceivers. You'll need one for the camera, and one for the flash. If your 580 is the latest & greatest, the PW should plug in (so I'm told). If not, you'll need one of these.. http://www.flashzebra.com/wizardcables/hotshoe.shtml

[QUOTE=NFRs2000NYC,Jul 31 2007, 06:10 AM] Looks good, but on their site, it says "Sorry, this product is currently not available."

I take it your body doesn't have a built-in strobe that can trigger the off-camera flash, flash-sensor pointed at camera, as a photo-slave? Should have bought Nikon!

My Jewish ass isn't so tall. That Canon cord works just fine for me.....and I fit very comfortably into a S2000

Hmmm...im confused as hell...

The IIs on pocketwizards official site show 2 units, a sender and a reciever. On BH, it comes only with 1 unit, that is both. WTF?

Dave,

If you're going to get into remote strobing start off with a 580/550ex and then pick up a 430ex. The 5XXex will fire the 430ex as a slave. You're going to need a second flash anyway (getting into this genre), so why not go that route to start. If you find off-shoe flash strobing to be something you like, then go with the PW's, AB's, or more Canon Speedlights. I've had great results using my 550ex and 430ex. My next step will be to add another 430ex. I don't see myself needing more than that, but that's me.

Cheap remote trigger here.. Got mine, replaced the CR2 battery in this thing and though it's not perfect (misfires occasionally), it's still good enough for my amateur ass

The Plus II is a "transceiver", so it can be the transmitter or the receiver. You don't have to change a thing or buy anything different. I have 4 of the Plus II's and whatever one I grab out of the bag first goes on the camera. It's that easy.

I think maybe a older version was transmitter or receiver specific, but the Plus II is both in one unit.

Hope that helps.

i was going to suggest an speedlight transmitter like this one

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller...IC=CASTE2&Q=&O=

but they already cost 200 bucks. might as well spend the extra dough to get a PW or the 430ex.

How do you plan to use the off-camera flash? Alex's idea of using an 430ex is good but that's assuming that you want one source of light directly in front of your subject.

You can set the master speedlight to not fire
