Just curious to know if anyone else has this same effect on their S2000. Asif was over at my place tonight and we were looking at my car. When you open the hood there is a little plastic tab connected to the front bumper clip, it should have a little sticker with the VIN on it. My sticker is painted Silverstone and cannot be read, you can only see the stickers outline under the paint. On Asifs car the sticker is unpainted and fully visible ?? We thought my front bumper had been repainted as the black ducts (non functional brake duct things) below the bumper had paint on the edges which we thought was overspray, Asif's car has this too however. Careless painters at Tochigi ? My car has not been in any accidents, so this is where it becomes strange. Anyone else have a painted sticker on the plastic tab ? Hopefully everyone knows what I am talking about. How can I post a picture ? Regards, Brady
Brady, you need to load your photos to a 3rd party photo hosting site like Webshots or Imagestation, then link them to here in your posts with "image tags" OR, you become a "member" to get a photo album here.
Anyway, this is what you are talking about, right?:
As you can see, mine is not painted over. I also inspected my fake air ducts and there appears to be no overspray there, either. I think you should begin to investigate overspray elsewhere now.
Thanks for posting a picture Dave. That is the tab I am talking about. Asif's brake ducts have the same paint along some of the edge's as mine, we know his car has not been mucked with. Also, I pulled off my front tow hook cover and there is no indication of overspray, but there is a silverstone colored plastic arrow that can be removed which I found interesting. I just want to know why this VIN sticker was painted. Very strange.
I'm assuming you bought the car new? Or know it's accident history?
I watched some consumer type show once about damage to vehicles during transit (ie from factory to dealership) and they can suffer something like 5% (as I recall) of the value of the car in damage and can be repaired without having to disclose this to the customer.
Perhaps this would explain the repaint without a known accirdent?
It does not appear as "traditional sloppy overspray" You almost need a magnifying glass to see the black inner edges have some silver paint on them. Why would Asif' near perfect car be similiar ? Do these black ducts come out easily ? This may remain a mystery, I need to do some more sleuthing.

They don't come out at all. They are part of the bumper cap - one solid piece. The black fake ducts were just masked off and not painted with the rest of the bumper. They have to be dremelled out if you want them gone.
