Default Floor jack

Does anyone have a floor jack that they would recommend (and where to buy it in town)? I tried a nice looking one from Auto Value, but the 5 inch minimum height is to high to fit under the side jacking points.

I saw one at walmart, it lowers about 3" something.
Not to sure how good it works, but it should be okay.
Usually what I do is use a regular jack and just drive up onto a piece of wood.

Yeah, that seems to be the norm. Buy a cheaper jack and just drive up onto some 2x6's to get the car up high enough. Or use two jacks.

Yesterday I found a nice 1.5 ton aluminum jack from Auto Value ($78) that goes down to 5" instead of 5.5". It's still a bit too high, but if I take the front rollers off it just barely fits. It takes a tiny shove to get under the side hardpoints, but that's just the rubber saddle pad grabbing a bit. I'll shave the rollers on a lathe and I should be good to go.

I only jack from the front and back...

so I'm not sure about the side...

(I use the side points for jack stands)

I bought mine at Canadian Tire. Princess Auto has one that drops to 2.5" I believe. Pricing isn't too bad on it either, check it out on their site.

You really don't need anything more than 1.5 ton as you aren't lifting the entire car up. It's more than enough.

My CT jack cost me $24 and has worked flawlessly. Not heavy either.

I second the Princess Auto jack. They have 2 different size low profile aluminum ones (the brand is Powerfist). I bought their smaller one for autocross and is works great and was less than $100, is quite light and fits under a stock height S2000. If i wasn't karting it around (ie: just in the garage) i would have bought the bigger one, as it lifts higher.
