I don't post much on this forum, but instead I read and learn from other members past experiences. This site contains many valuble information for members, however those valuable posts are becoming less and less everyday. Instead posts of ignorant disrespectful members has become more common.
Hope you reconsider Dave and good luck.

If Dave hadnt posted all his DIY's, i'd still be too scared to do anything less than fillup the gas tank and check my oil level. I always took comfort that although I had nearly a million unanswered questions, I'd always have someone that would never steer me wrong.
Very sad to see how the board has driven away the one thing that made this forum a step above the others. I'm even more sad that I never met Dave in real life and I hope this doesnt mean he'll be a stranger to any future local meets.
All isn't lost: I started a poll to gauge interest in a possible solution to have an online connection with Xviper.

As I said in one of the several threads that got deleted, he was 90% of the reason I spent time here.
Interesting that Cthree would be cutting down Dave considering how many people he got to purchase memberships. I for one was adamant about NOT purchasing a membership on a site that sells advertising, but it was the only thing Dave ever asked me for after helping me countless times so I bought one. Needless to say, I won't renew.

My overall read of this situation is that Dave was standing his ground on a principle that was not at all understood by the people he was taking to task. They really had no clue why he was so incensed about what they were doing...he quickly became impatient talking to an unreceptive audience, then it escalated. There are a few principles/ideals that I routinely go to the mat on; clearly this in one that Dave felt pretty strongly about.
I agree with the view that as the S2000 becomes more affordable, a new wave of owners are entering the mix. Unfortunately, I think this will continue to erode the cohesiveness of the S2000 community; because the car was relatively expensive when new and a decidedly niche product, early owners and enthusiasts tended to be on the same general end of the automotive and social spectrum. With the price of MY2000's in the $17-$18k range in the States, a whole new set of genes are entering the ownership pool. I suspect the response will be that individuals will retreat to a subset of the community that works for them, or simply stop participating.
FWIW, I think the site owners could have (and should have) done a much better job of managing and moderating this dispute. I've been a paying member for 5+ years...their inexperience in managing the site from a technical perspective has been glaring over the years; now their hamfisted handling of this issue has caused a significant piece of site intellectual property (that they were getting the benefit of for free) to walk. Oh well, my S2K is gone...probably time for me to leave as well. (Although I reserve the right to buy good, cheap S2ks in the States next spring and sell them to young guys up here that have always wanted them but could never afford them <g>)

I believe that cthree should have stepped in and calmed the waters. Dave was someone who helped too many. He must have contributed to at least half of the sites value. And now that the site is pretty much set up and running with all the info that anyone would need, cthree showed his weak character. I think both arguments were right with respect to the signiture artwork.
My solution:
Dave should start his own site and get paid for his efforts. It would be so easy to bring this site down with a huge move of members. Sponsors move too! This is the problem everywhere when the boss thinks he's untouchable.
