Default jdm quality

hi guys... just curious what u guys think...

do u guys think the price on jdm stuff like mugen/top secret/amuse/work/volk/j's racing is all worth it?
im talking about everything like jdm aero/intakes/rims/coilovers
would u rather pay the huge price... or rather get some cheaper parts but pretty good quality...

like a mugen intake vs. a aem intake....

I'm sure the quality of the "real" stuff is right up there, but as to "worth", well that's up to the individual. I'm not reluctant to buy "knock offs" if they look OK and work OK. The cost savings certainly offsets the small imperfections.
For example, my Seibon hood has big gaps at the sides, but the gaps are even. It was "dirt cheap" compared to if I had bought a real Top Secret hood, which I never would have done because of the expense (not worth it to me).
Then there's the Volk rims. A reall nice product. On the other hand, I had $95.00 ADR rims for my winter tires. Not even close to the quality of the Volks, but some people actually mistook those for MF-10s when I was driving by. Of course, the Volks are perfect offsets and widths, etc. The ADRs were a compromise but for that kind of money compared to what I paid for those Volks, sometimes I give my head a shake.
I had the AEM intake. Great bang for the buck. Nothing JDM will even come close to it for the money. Compare this to a Mugen intake and I don't see where you "get what you pay for". In this reference, that statement is bunk.
If you like name dropping, then there's no question which route you must go.

if you are trying to impress people then jdm stuff will be the way but if you do things for yourself, then you get what you are comfortable and what will do the job.

You have to go with what'll make you happy. I've spent way too much money on a lot of mods that don't "do" anything, but they've made the car more enjoyable.

If spending $2k on a mugen intake is going to make you appreciate your car more than $200 on the AEM, I say go for it.
