You know not to drive on the S02's if there's ANY snow or ice on the roads, right?

If not, he'll learn pretty quick

I drove my '04 on the stock wheels in a wicked late March snow storm... on highway 2 to top it off.

It can be done, but you need to be pretty aware of what you can and can't do in regards to steering, braking, throttle, and more. I managed to sustain about 80 kph all the way back from Edmonton. 90 was slippery, 100 would have been death

An '00 is the only model year where the engine coolant is a "short life" coolant. That is, it must be flushed and changed after 3 years. I'd bet the previous owner has never changed it and it's probably time. This would be the perfect time to install the block heater. I'm also going to bet that the rear diff fluid has not been changed either or at least not at the proper intervals. This might be something that should also be done for insurance. The rest, is not quite as critical and you'll find out about them as you go.
When we have our next dinner/meet, maybe you can come and we can talk about some of the stuff that you should consider doing to the car next spring.
For now, look into the engine coolant, block heater, diff fluid and check the oil often. It may still be using it at a significant rate.

Weather is still holding out... but definitely get on that as soon as you get back. I'm sure you can get the tires you need within a day or two from someone in Calgary. As long as you stick to one of the models we've been suggesting, you'll get a great snow tire for this car.

Hey J

I have two decent Michelin Arctic Alpins 225.50.16 (rears) that I got from a friend last year. I never did put them on the S, it's worn down quite a bit but should be good for the rest of winter. They are yours for free if you want them man!

www.tiretrends.com based out of Maple Ridge, BC

Although I came close to dealing with them, I've heard a lot of good things about them. I called around locally for the best price for Blizzaks and steel rims and Tire Trends has the BEST price, even with shipping and tax included.
