Not being able to repaint a bumper? Dang it Canadians are weird

Yes you can repaint a bumper, as others have said, there are various reasons why a shop may not want to repaint something. If your bumper is needing repainted, it may be in rough condition and it's not worth the time to repaint it. It's going to take more prep time (usually) to repaint an existing bumper, especially if it pitted due to rock chips, bugs, ect.

 

This. The paint on my bumper is spider-webbed and cracked from the previous owner. Went to a few body shops for estimates and they all pretty much said for all the prep work needed it's cheaper just to buy a new bumper. It doesn't necessarily mean they won't do it.

 

Also depends greatly on how they think the final product will look too as its their reputation on the line. If they think the bumper isn't going to take paint properly and will result in a sub par job you wont ultimately be happy with they could be doing you a favor by denying the job.

 

If they are telling u to buy a new bumper than fix the current one then change shops. Sounds like a lazy shop. A new bumper can be like 400 plus paint. That's a lot of money. Again, change shops

HI guys am new on here so don't really want to offend any one but couldn't help joining in.
I don't know how good the body shops are on your side or what tools they are using but its the funniest thing i heard in the last 30 years of repairing cars. i have a very big body shop in uk and we specialise in bumper repairs including plastic welding jig work body work painting never had a problem.

The S2000 bumpers are made from pp plastic they not in pu unless after market ones. The repair time on the worst bumper with chips and scratches its 1 hour to sand it down with 320 grid Da disc sander. And 1 hour to put good 2pack primer on it and bake it in the oven and 1 hour on cooling it down then about 2 hours to flat the primer and get it to a smooth finish. then about an hour to paint it and bake it again depending on if you are using solvent or water base paint.

Its total 6 to 8 hours including fitting. If its a insurance job that's a different case they would recommend a new bumper.


so all the people on here are right there's id no such a thing as cant paint plastic.
