I failed in installing my modifry top fix straps and I'm sure some of you can quickly figure out why. The second bar is not attached to the top. The window does not say Honda so I figure this must be an aftermarket top. It fits just fine but I cannot install the new straps and I am down to the one stretched strap that I had not yet removed. What does everyone think? Should the second bar be attached to the top with fabric and then install my straps? What happens when I install the strap now is the second bar flips back under the straps tension when opening the top, then it cannot close properly without a helping hand pulling on the bar. I don't really have issues with the top overall, I had bought the straps preemptively. Let's be honest when you're on Modifry website it is hard not to buy a handful of things at once.

On my Robbins replacement roof the 1st bar (counting back from the windshield header and in the center of the roof) is covered by fabric and connected to the roof material -- looks like Velcro. The roof elastic straps are pop riveted to the front of that bar, then back over and riveted to the rear of the 2d bar. The straps pull the bars together as the roof retracts.

You should see the pair of holes on each end of those two bars. Your first bar appears uncovered as it's shiny.

The Modifry straps don't rivet, they're secured with little prongs that go into holes in the pop rivets so it's not necessary to drill out the rivets in the bars -- a dangerous operation so near to the fabric. If your rivets are gone I suspect the prongs will fit the holes.

Thanks Chuck, I had the modifry strap installed as per the installation instructions from what you call bar 1 and bar 2. This didn't work as my bar does not seem to be attached at all, must mean it isn't OEM or a Robbins. The strap connects as you mentioned to the two old rivets at the ends of that bar. The tension from to new strap is strong and flips the bar back when opening the top. If the bar was Infact attached to the top it would flip back forward on its own when closing. Maybe I will have a apolstery shop connect the bar to the top.

Ps: my spring time purchase is going to be a Tanabe Medallion Touring partly due to some of your past posts comparing it to the Q300. Thanks for learning that one for the rest of us.

 

Although I suspect all the AB S2000s are in barns for the winter by now see if you can look another car or two and note how the roof and bars are connected. I'm not convinced my Robbins roof is installed exactly like the OEM roof but it seems to work well.

Spent two weeks in the Calgary area last summer. The S2000 would have been a ball to drive over toward the mountains! Area is surprisingly flat less than 100 miles east of there. Deceptive though as it's around 4000' ASL, pretty near the maximum for our Virginia mountains. Guess that's why it's called the High Plains.
