HKS coilovers very hard to adjust
Hi all, I have new HKS Hipermax GT coilovers and I'm trying to set the height but after loosening the locking collar it doesn't want to turn. There is a lot of resistance when I turn the top ring and also the spring doesn't turn with the shock body. What am I doing wrong? Is there a set screw somewhere (tried looking but couldn't find any)? Thanks

Make sure you are only loosening the lowest of the 3 collars, then turning the threaded shock body down into the lower cup. You can shoot some WD40 into the bottom of the threaded shock body where it meets the cup. Some coilovers are easy to turn by hand, while others need to be turned with the spanner wrenches. It is important to make sure the upper 2 perches (responsible for preload) are properly tightened against each other so they don't rotate independently of the threaded shock body. You want them to be locked on tight to the shock body and rotate as 1 piece. Whether the spring turns doesn't really matter--if it turns it would probably make it easier though (some coilovers have teflon/nylon shims between the upper mount/lower mount and spring to help facilitate turning, but it's not necessary.).

Thanks! Yeah I made sure the two top rings are locked together. Just strange cuz I've adjusted coilovers before but I thought especially with these ones brand new they would be easy to spin. Oh well guess I just gotta put more muscle power into it.

yeah typically new coilovers are easier to adjust, so not sure what might be going on here. Try lube and a little more muscle and it should move, unless for some odd reason it's bottoming out already on the bottom of the cup.

The spring doesn't need to turn, the shock cartridge just needs to thread in and out of the lower shock mount. The threads are generally lightly oiled new. Make sure it's clean and free from debris.
