Default Lowering on stock shocks

Hello suspension gurus on s2ki

I'm new to this dropping my car thing. This is my first car that I can afford to mod so bare with my noob knowledge.
Here is my plan for the S. I'm thinking about buying a set of Eibach pro kit as I'm only looking for about an inch drop all around.
I understand the spring rates and stuff so I'm going for Eibach since it's pretty close to stock, I don't want to go with coilovers since it will make my S very stiff, the S is already pretty stiff as it is.
My stock shocks is already 50k miles. I don't drive my S that much since it's my weekend car(about 5k miles/year), would I still be fine with stock shocks ? If they do blow later in the future I will get a Koni but as of now my wallet is limited.

If anyone have any suggestions on springs, please chime in.

Appreciate your advices,

Ryan

Sounds like a good plan to me.

I say don't do anything. Save your money and learn more about your car and how it works. Read up, autocross/track and gain experience before you spend money on the suspension.

Oh, the stock springs are not stiff. I have 900 lbs/in in the front and 600 lbs/in on the rear and the ride is not that bad.

I've seen and heard good things from Eibach. My buddy has them on his 145k mile '02 shocks and he is FAST on the track! They give a decent drop as well. Nothing too crazy, just a nice subtle drop.

PS. Not all not coilovers are stiff. Off the shelf KWV3's with conservative settings ride as nice, if not better, than stock suspension

I have Tein s-techs on my S and I love them, they give about a 1" drop and the handling is great. If you don't plan on using your car as your DD, springs would be a great addition to your car, it still keeps a solid feel to it while not sacrificing a lot of comfort. I went from a '07 STi with KWV3's, sways, struts etc. and though the S has a little more body roll than my STi, I still like the handling of the S better.

I heard that if you go lower than 1" on s2ks you might have to look in to half shaft spacers also.

Coilovers are only stiff if you adjust them to be stiff. Any decent set of coilovers can be adjusted to ride lower, higher, stiffer or softer than stock suspension. I don't see one GOOD reason to go with springs over coilovers. Cost is the ONLY reason to ever go with drop springs instead of proper coilovers.

Yea 1" drop is all im looking for since my driveway is pretty steep. I don't want to scrape every time I try to get out of my driveway.

I will look into coilovers in the future but as of now I can only afford springs since tuition is coming up and christmas will hit my wallet right after that.
