Default Factory Damper Life Span

Hello Everyone,

I have a MY03 with 9,000 miles on it. It's spent most of it's life in a closed garage just sitting. After 8 years of life, do you think they should be replaced?

I'm not sure if they are fading as I have nothing to compare to (don't know anyone with an S2000). They do not make any noises and are not leaking.

Any input would be helpful. I just don't want to be driving the car in a diminished capacity and not even know it...

Thanks,

Joe

Push down on each corner of the car. If any corner bounces more than once, it is likely that the shock needs replacing.

I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Thanks for the tip.

I pushed down pretty hard today and there was not much movement in the car. I fear that if I push harder I'm going to dent the quarter panels... Might try doing it from the trunk (near where the latch is) and see if I can get the entire rear to bounce.

i would bet that they're still perfectly fine.

why you worry about shocks specifically?
a lot of stuff can go wrong even without car beeing driven.

I just worry about them sagging from age. For me the handling characteristics of the S2000 are its key strength, would hate to have it compromised. Then again, the OEM Showa shocks are some of the best I've ever encountered.

If you have any other tips for things I should look out for with age I would greatly appreciate it.

The only concern I see is the lack of use causing an internal seal to dry out. As long as the car was driven periodically and did not sit for years on end without use, I think they should be fine.

I have 129k on mine with a pretty aggressive drop and they're still good. Stout OEM units.
