Thumbs down Question about Koni Yellow's & Espelir's

Hey guys, I currently have Espelir springs with everything else OEM. Car drives very poorly and with 100,000 on the clock I am looking at either full Coil-overs or just adding the Koni Yellows to my Espelirs.

I am going to be close to 600RWHP and am expecting to get up to some decent highway speeds (on straights) and want the car to be stable

Opinions?

a cheap yet effective solution is to just buy newer used oem shocks as the damping on the konis is softer than stock I believe. A friend was in the same predicament as you and bought newer used oems and the ride was transformed and even sat a tad bit higher. Just a thought.

yea, his shocks were worn out (he had about the same mileage as you) and with the newer shocks the ride and handling improved.

Completely disagree. I had Espilir's on stock shocks and the handling improved very little. I had the springs on stock shocks for about 15K before I bought some Koni Yellows and the difference was night and day. The dampening on the shocks is either really firm or softer than stock. You don't really get an in between. You're going to see a significant improvement with the koni/espilir set up.

So going from worn out shocks to fresh shocks wont improve the handling. Regardless of spring setup you surely cannot be serious. I offered a cheap solution that WILL work from experience.

Your comparing your worn out oem shocks to new koni's... my post did not do so. Is buying the koni the best choice out of what he asked yes, but if he is ok w/ how his ride was when he first got the springs then my solution, FROM EXPERIENCE, will work.

FOr the price you're going to pay for *new* OEM shocks why would you NOT go with something BETTER and proven? From MY experience there was no SIGNIFICANT difference with OEM shocks that we're perfectly fine. Hence why I got the Koni's and it was night and day.

To the OP, do what you want. IMO I would spend a tad bit more and go with a full coil over kit. If that's not in the cards, go with what you want but my $.02 is the Koni Yellows.

B/c no one said buy brand new oem shocks. He could buy a used but newer set of 4 for 100 bucks which is not remotely close to Konis.

The only thing I agree with is the need for the OP to go with coilovers.

Just removed my Espelirs (for sale BTW) and went with stock springs, I also put four brand new OEM shocks on as one was blown due to having them prematurely comprssed by the Espelirs, the ride is 100% improved and the handleing is better than with the Espelirs. The difference in ride quality is amazing, no more jarring. IMO lowering springs diminish ride quality vastley and contribute to premature front end wear and tear.
