Who has replaced the roll hoop speakers with better speakers? What fits?

I was looking at these on Parts Express, but haven't yet taken a look inside the rollbar plastic to see what space is available for mounting... these may have no hope of fitting.

I searched for "roll hoop speakers" in the bottom of the forum (don't use the main search).

 

The reason why it is going to be hard for you to get an answer is simple....there are no EJs that have 2007s. I have never even seen them. Your best bet would be to remove them, and post pics of them next to a ruler in all dimensions.

 

They are the same as 06's, but all people have put in them is tweeters, not full range "drivers".

I have some that I fully expect to work, however, I am extremely lazy and would rather do more production tasks... like post whore.

Based on this picture:

which was posted in the thread you linked below, there looks to be over 3/4 of an inch to the rollbar, given the edge of the ruler is not the true 0-point...

the speaker I posted above is 7/8" deep, which doesn't strike me as way too deep, but there could be more to it. perhaps with a tiny spacer, since the cover allows for some clearance to the front?




what did the person who tried the 2" Aura speaker say? that looks to be a 1-1/8" mounting depth speaker, so it not fitting is a bit more understandable.


Otherwise, there is this 1" extended range with a 5/8 depth, though perhaps it's not much different/improved from what's already in the car...?

Are the speakers that you mention having, but not having yet attempted to install, from the altec lansing ipod dock?

When I measured mine, it was barely over 1/2" as far as I can recall (at the shallowest point the speaker could touch). Perhaps there's some variance there, not sure.

Yes, from the ipod doc, the speakers probably suck.. but can they be much worse?

Hmm now I want to go measure again. The 5/8" depth one is one I didn't see previously, sadly 1khz+ isn't quite full range
