I think I'm around $1400 with my current equipment:
Pioneer DEH-P9800 with XM
PPI PCX-480 amp
Boston Acoustics Pro components
JL 12w3v3

That doesn't include the alarm or LoJack that I had installed when the car was new.

Look, it's not about how much you spend.

Case in point:

One of the last drives I went on, a guy had $3500 into his system - JL 10" with MB Quart components and an Alpine HU.

My <$2k system completely blows his away. Not just in actual loudness (as compared to perceived loudness), but in SQ as well. His is just, well, bright and boomy (what Alpine and MB and JL market). Mine shows all the subtlety of the music (well, the woofers didn't but that's because I haven't installed my Revelators yet).

Again, it's not what you PAY...it's what you GET for what you paid.

I guarantee I'll put the $250 separates in my truck against anybody here's system and mine will sound better than most and just as good as the best. Irony is that the SQ purpose built system in my truck (4 amps, 2 12's, SEAS separates, and custom built RCAs) cost me around $2500 installed. And that's 2x the amps and subs you'll put in an S.

Again, it's not what you PAY...it's what you GET for what you paid.
