With the help of Dan (a fellow S2ker) I installed a two amp system with replacement MB Quart components. Just recently I started to experience what I would call a 'short' in the passenger door components - both the tweeter and mid - crackle and pop at any volume. I took the door panel off yesterday and fixed a loose connection at the tweeter but didn't see any other problems.

Anyone got an idea? My system is set up so speaker level outs are used from the headunit and ran to the amp. From the amp speaker wire is run to the distribution block in the door and then to the tweeter and mid seperately.

I don't know what is causing this problem...

 

hmm bad xover? have you switched the channels to see if it's coming from the amp? i would trace the inputs to make sure it's not coming from there. then check the speakers.

 

you mean bad internal crossover in the amp? what connections on the amp should i check? Off topic, you wouldn't happen to be comming to the BBQ or Rockville this weekend will you? Maybe you could help me take a look?

 

You can check the speakers just by connecting disconnecting the HU speaker level outputs and connecting them speaker cables themselves. Skipping the amp like this will allow you to see if its the amp or not, without to much work.

 

By the way check for a good ground! Those can be the bad guy as well.

 

yeah darkknight is on the right track. i would first try swapping the left and right outputs on the amp--so switch the channels so the right sound comes out the left speakers etc. see if you still get the crackle from the same speaker or if it moved to the other one. i don't expect it to, but you should check.


my remark about the xover, is that i'm assuming you're using component speakers so something in the xover might be bad. for that you would need to get your hands on a replacement xover to test. but i would try to isolate it to your speakers or your source first.
