Default Aftermarket Sub with honda CD player?

Just got my new stook thursday, Silver/Red, #1109 and I love the whole car except the stereo, it sucks, bigtime. Bought some new front coaxials, the JL Audio 6 inchers, they sound alot better. Needs some bass though.

Now I understand that Honda is coming out with a sub that mounts under the passenger seat. What I don't understand is why the heck it's taking so long. ARGH!! But anyway, why can't we use the pre-amp output on the back of the Honda Cd headunit and hook it up to an aftermarket amp/sub combo? Has anyone tried to decipher the pinouts of the auxillary plugs on the back of the headunit? One is for CD changer and the other I'm guessing is for the Kelton sub.

Here's my theroy, get the harness for the Odyssey, which I hear is readily available. Chop the harness and solder some RCA ends on the ones that carry the preamp signal then, hook it up to the sub/amp combo of your choice. Blammo, instant bass gratification!

Thoughts anyone?

This would be a nice way to add some bass without switching out the headunit and you would be able to retain the way-cool remote control panel.

I'm going over to local Honda store Monday to see if they can provide me with a radio schematic. They also have the subs and fit kits in stock for the Odyssey so, I'll let you know after I tear into it weather it will work. BTW, does Alpine make the OE Honda unit we all have?

Yes you can hook up an amp to the stock cd player using the harness that some compatible amp supplies. i.e. Alpine amps come with the aux input and the harness they provide for stereo inputs. The harness is connected directly to the grean/purple/white/gray speaker wires and go directly to the amp. If you are located in So Cal, I can give you a hand. Don't have a digital camera for pictures...

One more thing, if you split those wires and direct solder the aux inputs on, your system will sound like shit. Aux outputs are different from speaker outputs. There will be a lot resistants making it sounds like crap. Check out the alpine, older ORION, older PPI, and some other. They all have those speaker inputs.

because i do not believe there is a pre-amp output on the Honda CD headunit.
