Hola!
Supposed to be picking my 2002 S2000 up at the end of the month and wanted to put in an Alpine 7878.
Of course a prime concern are the alternate controls. I saw some posts in a different thread that led me to believe someone had actually gotten it to work, via a kit they purchased through a UK distributor -- anyone else hear this?
Or am I just far too hopeful for my own good?

Cheers!

US 7878 models don't have the required jack on the back to utilize the KCE-865B driect-wired adapter available in Europe...

I had heard that, but I also read where the individual in question had purchased the European adapter kit from the UK, and actually achieved some measure of success.

I merely forgot which forum I found that message in question.

Thanks.

Hey I got my 7878 installed and used the SWI-X control deck interface thingy. Get this

All of my dash controls work perfectly.

My mute even works. I had to use a little creativity to get the mute to work but I hooked it up to the interrupt function of the HU. It's not exactly mute, but it shuts everything up. The volume control is kinda sensitive, but other than that, it works great. SWI-X is the way to go.

Thanks Columbino!

Could you post a URL to where one might locate this unit? (SWI-X)

Perhaps even what sort of tweaking you had to do to get it to work....it would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

I'm guessing that the SWI-X can be bought at most any professional audio store. It ran me $69 (so to speak!). If you're not sure which one you are looking at, look on the back of the box and it will say that it is compatible with steering wheel controls of a bunch of different auto makes including Honda.

Also, I think the brand is PAC or something like that. I threw the box away already.

Colombino --

I found it! The PAC helped me track it down with a search.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Cheers!

just did a search for SWI-X on google and found a ton of 'em - crutchfield being the most notable right off the bat - looks like a universal remote control for head units - wonder how they work in bright sunlight? IR is notorious for dying out in the sun. looks interesting though - i might go that way.

My little IR receiver thing is mounted behind the flip down cover and it works even with the cover in the up position. I put my thumb over the receiver and obviously it didn't work, but it definitely works with the flip cover up. So if it gets really sunny, I'll just put the cover up and keep the IR receiver in the shade.
