To those that already have this unit.....

Do you need a new model IPOD (color screen that plays video models) to get info on the alpine screen, or is it just reading tag information, and will work with the OG click wheel models?
I believe it is only 4th gen and up

the ipod fits in the glove box...that is where i have mine. beware of the install to run the cable to the glove box...its a pain...if anyone needs help let me know
Can you shortly explain, how to run the ipod/USB-cable into the glove-box?
I'd like to do it like that way:

Is it really that difficult!?
Are there any other suggestions to hide the ipod, maybe under the dash or sth. like that?

thanks

It's easy to mount it there, but the door won't sit perfectly flush when closed.. because of that I put mine in the secret compartment but it's a hell of a lot more work and not really worth it.

its a pain....you have to remove both plastic panels behind the seats, remove the center console, then various screws that hold the glovebox in. then there are some screws in the back of the glovebox where the convertible top sits. The screws are behind a panel that clips into the back of the glovebox and its a pain to get out unless you take the convertible tray out. Then you have to run the cable underneath everything into the glovebox.

If you really wanna do it then let me know and i can guide ya through it and let you know about all the screws and what not. I have mine mounted inside the glovebox sitting in one of the compartments from the modifry glovebox organizer. You have to drill a hole into the back of the glovebox ...but you can make it look really clean if you take your time. Ill post pics tomorrow of the install.

Has anyone else mounted it somewhere else besides the glovebox?

I mounted mine in the secret compartment, how-to (sorta) and pics were posted in the DIY AP2 head unit install guide (which I think is in the faq, otherwise just search for DIY AP2)
